Edited 3 years agoI still recall the adverts of this answer to Arcade Various - Thunderdome II - Judgement Day (Back From Hell!), featuring Musical Vandals - Hakke!
EVA claimed that Rave The City featured "the one and only original Hakke!", referring to Ech Heftag! - De Haag Hakke !!.
Back in the days, only a few people who were in the music business knew that EVA was wrong. But hey, there was no internet, no Wikipedia, no Discogs, so EVA could get away with it.
It seemed that Rotterdam and The Hague were now the rivalling cities...
The version on Thunderdome II is a remix, namely one featured here: Musical Vandals - Hakke !!! (The Remixes).
The original version can be found here: Musical Vandals - Damage E.P.. It was only a faraway hidden B-side, but nevertheless, the term was invented 1992, a year before the Ech Heftag release.
However, due to the popularity of the Ech Heftag track, the Musical Vandals decided to have the track remixed.
Of course, "Hakke" refers to the way of dancing to 180-200 BPM speedcore when complex movements are theoretically impossible, but of course some people still try to make those movements.
Conclusion: Rotterdam invented the expression, The Hague popularised it.
And Amsterdam? They did what a decent country capital is supposed to do: stand aloof, wait until dust is gone and use the official spelling: Haardcore - Hakken.
