Great album - poor quality pressing. Unbelievable how hard it is to get GOOD new pressings lately. Poor quality control. Not sure what plant pressed this, but even after a wet clean still audible surface noise. Some clicks and pops are totally fine for vinyl - NOT this constant noise. Shame.

If this was a loud album i wouldn't notice the surface noise. Unfortunately you know XX is very stripped down. The noise is not loud but very present

Edited 2 years agoEven after intensive cleaning of both sides I still have surface noise, pops and clicks.
Especially on Side B. Very disappointing for this beautiful album.
Tested with Rega RP6 & HANA SH cartridge -
maybe I got a bit lucky, because the surface noise isn't too bad on my copy; I wouldn't call it "silent," but it's also the kind of thing that's more noticeable on a minimal-ish record like this...
otherwise a decent pressing; the vocals on "Angel," for instance, sound very present
setup:
Pro-Ject 1Xpression III SB turntable
Pro-Ject Phono Box DC preamp
PrimaLuna Prologue integrated amplifier
Klipsch RP-600M speakers -
No clear PVC sleeve on my copy, only shrink-wrap over cardboard slip-sleeve. Anyone else? I think the PVC mention in Notes is an erroneous carryover from copying the 2012 deluxe variant to create this one.

Edited 2 years agoA second wet cleaning definitely helped cut down on the surface noise on my copy for anyone having similar issues. It's still audible in between some songs and the quieter parts, but drastically less noticeable.

not gonna line side a is very bad for audible surface noise...The dreaded scuff noise is very audible as the album is quiet...not something that could be cleaned up using click removal in a post editing fashion wouldn't recommend which is a shame

Amazing album, but this pressing doesn’t sound good. Surface noise all over the place… like the black pressing. If you want to listen to this album in good quality buy the boxset!
