Edited 4 years agoI would venture the appeal of The XX - XX comes from the dreamy delivery.. it exists somewhere between being asleep and waking up; a kind of simple space.
Its innocent childlike melodies seem to fit in before you fully wake up and all your worries. I have also listened to this album before I have fallen asleep more than once over the years, and it works to relax the mind for sleep too.
Musically it uses silence and rests very well to provide atmosphere and texture.. it is slow tempo, unhurried, and the soft whispering vocals rise out of the silence and melody very well.
