Picked up a used copy that appeared to be in decent shape. Got one of those that's completely flat and dead quiet. Sounds excellent.
-
No warping here, just a bit of a dull mix/master. You’ll have to EQ this to taste on your amp. I had to pump the treble.

High audiophile review
Listened to the A side with no weed, then the B side stoned, can confirm both sides cooking. Sonic audio quality wise, pretty good. W Amazon. Anyways I reccomend the stoned listen 😁
Discog pls np ban ☹️ -
I got one of the good ones it seems (from Amazon). Amazing mastering job, no surface noise at all and the disk is flat as it can be!

Edited one year agoReally disappointing. The pressing was very noisy after multiple ultrasonic deep-cleans and static discharges. Very surprising pressing issues coming from a plant as good as Pallas. However, the treble is too defined and as another review mentioned, it's dynamic, but not very dynamic.

Divisive reviews here! I got one of the good ones - dynamic, open, and quite quiet. I can vouch for the quality of the cut, but would guess that there may have been manufacturing/QC issues (maybe putting the vinyl in a sleeve while it was still hot, which can lead to the surface noise issues people are describing here).

This is fantastic! Music content aside I had forgotten how good modern music can sound in of mastering. The sound is so organic and present, with proper dynamic range. Bernie Grundman delivers yet again. Pressing is dead quiet also but no surprises there as it was done at Pallas. If you have any issues with surface noise then you either don't clean your records or you got a faulty one :)
6/5 stars -
I love music, but this pressing is terrible. Background noise is annoying. In the quieter ages it is clearly heard along with the music. And it's absolutely evident in the spaces between the songs. It has nothing to do with mastering. It is clearly a problem with the vinyl itself or with the lacquering. I have thousands of vinyl records, many of them secondhand, so I'm used to background noise. But this is inissible. A real shame.

Another impression on sound here....
Yes, it sounds a little "muffled" here and there - but that sure is production skill - if you want to call it this way.
Listen to some Thundercat tracks - they often do have this strange "well, ist it already low fi?" feeling. It is obvious that some production techniques to achieve this are in use here too.
Generally i would say it sounds very good on my system - if there is open end demanded the record delivers it. My copy is absolute clean and flat, no complaints here - and this is something I can reproduce quite often wiith Pallas pressings.
So the ground line is : can u dig this as it is or it is not to your taste. To be honest - it is not quite my cup tea musically - sure has its moments but too often there is this free jazz "chaotic instrument wanking" which follows strict rules - of course - but is something that is a downturn for my musical taste.
I quite like the artwork/design and the fact that Blue Note is involved here. Will stay in the collection but may be not played as often as needed. Maybe over time it grows to be more relevant to me.
