If you ever come across it for a fairly reasonable price, this fantastic collection of essential UR tracks will prove itself to be worth your while, and then some!
Loaded with vintage classics, "Revolution for change" can be interpreted as a -best of- compilation prior to the trio parting ways and pursuing solo careers. The music is very mechanical, harsh, driving, yet somehow painted over with a layer of soul. Be it the opener, Riot, with its repeating siren hook and sample of a screaming crowd, Mills' devastating Punisher which only hinted at what was to come with his marvellous "Waveform transmission vol. 1", the seminal evergreen Sonic Destroyer, with an inimitable orchestral touch, Predator with its erratic and disturbing melody consisting out of an alien radio frequency, all the way through to pure joyful emotion of Sometimes I Feel Like and Quadrasonic, which has an acid line reminiscent of old Plastikman stuff, the feel good tune Eye Of The Storm and the pulsating techno stomper Killer Whale - whatever it may be - this was Underground Resistance's view of the evolving techno sound; cold, basic, raw, but capable of transmitting complex and benevolent messages. A classic piece of electronic music, and quite probably one of the finest stops to make for those interested in the evolution of Detroit techno, as these are some of the finest audio waves to have emerged from the Motor City. Enjoy! -
Edited 15 years agoEssential release for any Detroit Techno lover. This album is all about the hardness, the soul, the feeling and the mental violence of the UR posse.
Raw techno dances with jazz flavoured melodies, in brilliant musical pieces that only the mind of Mad Mike could create.
Let the violence of "Sonic Destroyer", the smoothness of "Sometimes I Fell Like" and the mental punishment of "Punisher" blow your brain into the guts of Detroit.
Dont even think about missing this one.
