Edited 5 months agoUsed & Abused is named like that because Technohead producer Michael screwed Flamman & Abraxas over. Flamman & Abraxas made the radio version of "I Wanna Be A Hippie" which went to number 1, but they never earned a dime. Technohead is so evil that they even removed Flamman & Abraxas from the title of that track on all streaming platforms.

E.H.B.O. is a blueprint for lots and lots of French and UK "core" stuff. This legendary kick section is copied into eternity by Producer, Radium etc. Besided this for me it's a stone cold classic and great to bridge the gap between
the so-called "early hardcore" and "early terror" genres.
In '95 this was a really hard and fast track for Dutch gabber standards! -
Fun fact: Some people still think to this day that Porter & Flamman are actually Technohead themselves, lol. Anyway, their follow up to the I Wanna Be A Hippy Remix was yet again a success, maybe not so much in other countries like but #1 in Netherlands speaks for it. Yes, it was Happy Hardcore, but that they could also fill the true hardcore needs can be heard on this LP.
Used & Abused is my favorite on this LP, really nice vocals from Status IV - You Ain't Really Down.
E.H.B.O. stands for Eerste hulp bij ongevallen, it means First Aid basically. It's the darkest gabber track on this LP, actually very similar to Used & Abused, but faster, with more distortion and mainly only hard rhythm elements. The end is nice, probably from a movie: "The world is coming to an end..." (Thanks morthen for info about the movie) -
Used And Abused is one of the few happy hardcore tracks i will openly it to loving to this day still. E.H.B.O. is a timeless hardcore techno banger, up there with the finest Dutch classics.

Edited 9 years agohey did any one actually know that - OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN sang this on one of her albums, the title is exactly the same, HAVE YOU EVER BEEN MELLOW. maybe she wrote it.

A hidden gem on this record is the B2 track. It takes that excellent trademark punchy kickdrum and uses it to devastating effect in a fantastic 200 bpm hardcore techno track. This classic track is featured in countless Producer sets from 1995 onwards, and was an influence on some of his early tracks like "Get Retarded". Very ahead of it's time - and worth getting this record for alone. (Although it has to be said that Used & Abused is equally good!)

Edited 19 years agoHave You Ever Been Mellow?, a great tune that sounds very similar to the melody from TechnoHeads:- "I wanna be a hippy". When happy hardcore was first becoming popular.
The star of the show here though in my opinion is the Used & Abused track. A really hardcore banging track with a truly memorable hard trance build up in the first couple of minutes. The irregular machine gun like bass line during the buildup climax is really spectacular the first couple of times you hear it.
M-Zone used this part of the track in quite a few of this sets.
This vinyl is indeed popular and with good reason too.
