I had a Phillips sound system, model "Ambio 4", and I distinctly that this particular album sounded very different when listened to in stereo mode...so I can testify that the quadraphonic mix did have peculiarities that you could only notice when listening to it on a quadraphonic system. On the other hand, when I once attended a Pink Floyd concert, they played the entire album in question exactly as heard on the album and the live mix was also quadraphonic...I have never witnessed that again.

Requirement: the stereo amplifier system must be very powerful.
      I now have a version 3.
The mix is different to my UK 2nd press series (which is also very, very good).
But the sound jumps out at me here and goes even further into the room. Sensational!
I listen to it with a "DENON 103 S" and a "Lehmann Black Cube". The "DENON 103 S" was developed for "Quad CD4" at the time.

I own the 30th, 50th, the Mofi and the USA first press and I have to say this pressing the music just jumps off the vinyl in a way none of the others do at all. I would almost call it a hot mix. All the others there’s a slight difference but this one is heads and shoulders above the others mentioned.

Do you a quadraphonic scam ? It was just another way to sell more speakers to public & make extra money , right ?
So , whatever happened to Quadraphonic ? It flopped , the same way as laserdisc scam some time later !
Why it flopped ? Simply because it was a scam !
Was it the last scam ? No , then came MP3 , i.e. bad & compressed sound for people with more money then brains .
And the story goes on , i.e. ing and so on...

You can definitely tell the differences between this mix and the traditional stereo, especially regarding where voices/instruments are placed in the soundstage. There are some sounds/effects that I don’t recall hearing before on the stereo. The overall tonality sounds a bit more raw and brighter than the stereo pressings I’ve heard, particularly the 30th and 2016. Wish there was a little less brightness in the guitars and more oomph in Mason’s drums (on side 1, side 2 drums sound better to me). Overall, a worthwhile listen but I don’t think this will be my go to copy. Do take my comments with a grain of salt, though, as my copy isn’t in the best shape.

This is my first copy of DSOTM, which I got a great deal for: $11, solely because one of the sticker inserts is plastered to the back cover! The quadrophonic mix sounds fantastic, and I don’t think I even need to consider buying another copy. 10/10.

It may not be the true Alan Parsons discrete mix of the album, but I honestly prefer how this one sounds over the original stereo mix, even on a two channel setup. It’s not because of the additional instrument overdubs, but rather how OPEN the soundstage is on this pressing.

I’ve burnt myself out of this album for years and would not listen to it for a long time, but after hearing this quad mix on vinyl, it’s kind of gotten me back into the album and Pink Floyd as a whole. Definitely a recommended listen, and I’m sure will be even better once I get my SQ decoder amp back from the shop.

I have checked out many of the holy grail stereo pressings of this album, and they are all amazing in their own ways. This quad pressing played back in stereo however is just a cut above. Absolutely beautiful sounding record. I think I am finally finished buying copies of this one. I can’t imagine anything sounding better.

IMO, in every sense this Alan Parson quad version is a better listen than the common stereo mix and my copy (A3/B1) is a lovely deep quiet pressing. Managed to find one recently that appeared unplayed. After a good cleaning it sounds incredible.
