Out of personal taste i needed to fast forward a few minutes into the Caboladies side because it started with a hippie drone featuring hand drums, flanging and raga string bowing. a few FF's and we reach a more minimal modulated filter chill mood. Another transition leads to watery synths crescendoing with tons of synth and rhythmic embellishment slowing down into an aqueous tropical vibe. This track morphs into one last zone and i start thinking there is abundance of technical ability shown but the music never settles on a rewarding moment for long.
OPN side jumps straight into "Samovars in Tula", a characteristic cyber arpeggio and cool cheesy synth lead. Then we're dropped quickly into the creepy pulsating industrial sputter of "Identity". A quick cut leads us into the slow almost medieval commodore-64-esque zoner "Memory Vague" - so chill, this track is definitely an OPN best-of !$?! "Sand Partina" is a forgettable slow synth wash with a lonely lead guiding us through the resonating wash. Tasteful pulsating slow fade strangely gets covered in some sawing real strings. There is a final very brief reprise of "Identity" and we're done.
"Memory Vague" alone makes this one a keeper. -
damn, no comments on this one? probably my favorite 0PN release and a solid side by Caboladies, too!
