Scot Project* – F2 (Future Is Now)

This release brings us three contemporary remixes of the original F (Future Is Now!) which was released in 2000, nearly a decade ago at the time of writing, and has rocked dance floors for years since.

Kamui’s remix is a fresh and minimal sounding remix, reflecting the new style Kamui have turned to as of late. It incorporates a great bouncy bassline ed by a minimal amount of elements which are put to great use. Though some may find this remix to be monotonous, I find the way these elements fit together intriguing, creating a great track. The track features a beautiful break with some great trademark effects, a perfect display of the production skills Kamui have, and when the main part kicks in it is bound to make the dance floor move.

Kidd Kaos’ remix is more reminiscent of the original track, making extensive use of the original vocals and keeping the original break. The intro has some very nice vocal work, ed by a great bassline that is sure to get people moving. The main part features a chopped up melody accompanied by a big, roomy synth which works quite nicely, though in my opinion it lacks a certain amount of energy, leaving behind an overall feeling of dissatisfaction.

Flipping over to the B-side, we find the true gem of this release. Zorastra have delivered a stunning remix, not unlike a track done by Scot Project himself. The track features a short and playful intro, making excellent use of clever percussion, before skipping to the mid-intro which just keeps building tension, definitely setting the tone for the main part. The break that follows is again beautiful and will surely bring a smile to one’s face. When the main part kicks in, the incredible melody is carried by just a kick, quickly building to the introduction of a bassline which is nothing short of amazing. For a first release, Zorastra have brought us a truly terrific track, more than living up to Druck’s long reputation and leaving me eager for what they will bring us in the future.

In conclusion, I think this release offers something for everyone. If you like your beats techy and truly unique, or hardfunk as they call it themselves, Kamui’s remix is your track of choice. I can see the Kidd Kaos remix working nicely as a set opener. Finally, if you prefer a more epic approach to hardtrance, go for Zorastra’s remix which would definitely make a highlight in any set.
