Very much of its time, but a signpost of that time, similar in tone and break treatment to his Moving 808s 12" on Prototype around that time. To a later ear, it's nicely amusing that the vocal sample 'To Shape the Future' is then prefaced by a dial-up modem connection sound, which is very mid-90's. The vocal sample according to DOA is not from a film or a documentary, but a sample CD. The b-side 'Raging Calm' is good too, not a banger, but certainly a cracker.

I very well when I got my hands on this record for the very first time. This was really the future to me, it had nothing to do with any other drum'n'bass record I had heard so far. Most likely this is due to the way Optical arranged elements at that time. It's not just breaks and bassline and some effects... every sample and sound used in here is contributing to the movement of the whole thing.

The Matrix track is absolutely outstanding, too. These 2 guys really shifted aesthetics at that time.
