Is there going to be another version for the 2023 pressing? I can't find a barcode listing for mine yet.

Edited 3 years agoThis is the only version of the album that I have owned, but I have a 12 inch Walk This Way. In a head to head shoot out the 12 inch beat the Mofi cut as I was kind of expecting, but I was shocked to hear the difference. While I don't think the Mofi was necessarily lacking anything sonically, it sounded very flat. The 12 inch was rich and punchy gave the music plenty of room to breathe. I haven't compared other LP versions, and I trust that Mofi did a fine job, but I'm convinced that this can sound much better than it does. I can't help but wonder how the record might improve sonically if they moved My Adidas to side A instead of leaving a colossal amount of dead wax. I know that comparing a 12inch to an LP isn't exactly fair.

The Arista 180 gram version sounds just as good if not better. More bottom end than the MOFI version to be honest. Playing off a Rega P3, Elex-R and Wharfedale Evo 4.3.

What was the original MSRP on this LP before it sold out? I am interested to know how far the flippers are going to bend me over on this? FML

Hip-Hop is a totally different genre. Hip-Hop has a gritty sound. Hip-Hop wasn't meant to be "audiophile" music....
-
Not only is this the 1st MoFi hip-hop release, this is the very 1st Audiophile Hip-Hop album EVER! If you own this, you own a piece of audiophile history. Enjoy!

Edited 4 years agoCompared to an original recently. The original sounded pretty decent all things considered, but there was definitely more life, presence, and separation on this MoFi cut. On songs with less busy production you won’t see as large of an improvement simply because there’s just not a lot going on. Sometimes a drum machine, a few samples and vocals are all that’s really present and in those cases there’s more air and a more lifelike, in the room quality to the vocals but nothing that really dramatically changes the listening experience. However on tracks like Walk This Way or Is It Live there’s a big difference. When things get busy on WTW it gets muddy on the OG and details are lost, I heard things I’d never heard before on this MoFi. And the texture on the drums for Is It Live brings a new energy To that track. Considering finding a truly clean original can be a little TRICKY...I’d say this is definitely worth grabbing for anyone who is a huge fan and wants a clean copy. It’s a definite improvement but frankly the material on these discs isn’t exactly audiophile you begin with and there’s not as notable a difference as there is with a lot of other MoFi titles. The bass is incredible though and definitely better imaging on this release too. Worth the scalper prices? Depends on how much the record means to you. It’s a great choice for them put out as the first audiophile hip hop release considering it’s what really brought the genre to the mainstream. Hope to see more
