This album just didn’t connect with me.
It just didn’t sound right, almost a disted arrangement. Looks awesome. Just does nothing for me musically. I enjoy almost every other Beck album I’ve heard, just disappointed.
-
For what it is, it’s a good pressing. They’re jamming an extra two songs onto an already crowded record, and it causes inferior sound quality to the standard edition, but the record is still playable. The surface noise is noticeable but not enough to ruin the experience (just give it a decent clean).

Edited 3 years agoCertainly not the best pressing in of rumble and flawlessness. They gave away at least 6 dB of dynamics. Pallas should be able to do that better. Tonally, I can detect a small difference to the stream: Somewhat weaker towards the high frequencies, therefore the sound tends to be somewhat darker.

This album sounds amazing. Ignore the haters. Someone said Beck does a bunch of terrible raps? There is no rap on this lp. It sounds excellent. It isnt very different from the regular version. A few alternate takes, amd a few extra tracks. Overall I am glad I purchased it. The cover and the artwork is fantastic.

This is not worth buying, except for the art which is quite spectacular. It quite honestly sounds worse than the CD. Really underpowered and flat.
-
Why is this priced more than double of the original release? I bought a limited pressing of the first release in red vinyl and have been dragging my feet on this one due to the exorbitant price? Is it worth owning due to the two new tracks?

I ordered this record on October 24, 2020 directly from Beck's official website. I paid € 53.40 for it and it was delivered to me on the first day of March 2021. Personally I think it is a good record and from my point of view, the vinyl sounds good. Pharrell Williams' hand on music production is felt. Very nice the black cover with hologram as well as the booklet with texts and notes. It is rather annoying that the digital copy (FLAC) is reserved for buyers residing in the U.S. and A.

Just compared this to the hyperspace 2019 vinyl (silver) and the 2020 hyperspace’s volume is quite low and lacking treble and mid range clarity. There’s definitely an emphasis on the low end, but overall it’s a pretty underwhelming listening experience. I’m a huge Beck fan and of this album in particular, so I was excited to hear these new mixes, but I am disappointed in the mastering. It’s a miss. 2020 strikes again.

Much prefer his earlier releases. Was one of my favourite artists, but just not digging most of his new shit.
-
Not sure what the point of this release is (and the price...ouch!). It manages to make some of the bad songs worse, and some of the good songs bad via very questionable 2020 remixes. HOWEVER, it does have one little Beck curio worth checking out on the streaming service of your choice: a little acoustic number called I Am The Cosmos (42420).
