Edited 2 months agoII have 3 versions - 1st UK A1U/B1u, 1978 Japan, and the 1972 first US Monarch press which I have owned since 1972. The UK A1U/B1U first press with white inner sleeve has the most prominent bass and most resonant percussion. The gongs are truly spectacular on the UK version compared to a slightly less resonant sound on the Monarch press. However, Monarch really rocks at high volume because the snare drums are more accentuated and upfront in the mix. For my taste, the richer bass on the UK version is too over whelming and buries the drums when they should be rocking. The Japanese version doesn't have the punch of the Monarch or sonic resonance of the UK version. My 74 year old American ears prefer the Monarch press because I like rock n roll in my progressive LPs
