Warning: Comes with a PVC Sleeve
Using PVC (polyvinyl chloride) sleeves for vinyl records is generally not recommended for a few key reasons:
1. Chemical Reaction: Over time, PVC can release hydrochloric acid, which can react with the vinyl record and cause “vinyl rot” or degradation. This chemical reaction can lead to visible and audible damage to the record.
2. Outgassing: PVC sleeves can emit gases over time, particularly in warmer environments. These gases can create a cloudy film on the record’s surface, which can affect the sound quality and make the record harder to clean.
3. Static Buildup: PVC is more prone to static buildup compared to polyethylene or polypropylene sleeves. Static electricity can attract dust and dirt to the record’s surface, which can lead to scratches and negatively impact playback quality.
4. Moisture Trapping: PVC sleeves are less breathable than other materials. They can trap moisture, leading to mold and mildew growth on the record and its jacket, which can cause irreversible damage.
