This sounds absolutely phenomenal. Beautifully mastered and perfectly pressed onto flat heavyweight vinyl.
The audio tracks on the original game CD were mastered with pre-emphasis, which is so rare on audio CDs that many players opted not to include the appropriate de-emphasis circuitry. As a result, playing the CD on one of these players will give a harsh, tinny sound that doesn't do this masterful soundtrack any justice.
Technically this vinyl pressing also uses pre-emphasis in the form of the RIAA curve, but since all phono preamps reverse the curve you're not going to run into any compatibility issues! -
Why has this pressing shot up in price recently? I used to see it going for $15 - $20 at one point. I should have jumped on it then. I might as well wait for a repress now.

The pressing is impressive, having zero surface noise for this kind of score is very important and they did a great job, the sound is very well balanced and wider than the CD version. I recommend it.

While I absolutely love this soundtrack, the vinyl treatment of it is subpar. Especially when compared to my copies of The Downward Spiral, and The Fragile. The Quake discs come in a gritty paper sheath, and the inside of the album was dirty as hell right out of the wrapper. Dust and particulate, everywhere throughout. So naturally my discs have small scratches from shipping which cause clicking through some tracks.
Kinda grinds my gears that my other definitive NIN albums have an antistatic protective sheath for each disc while the Quake OST got the cheap treatment and seems like it was stored in a dirty warehouse during manufacture. -
Powerfully evocative and claustrophobic soundtrack - brings back floods of memories of playing Quake in the late 90s. The game and artist a perfect match. Quality of pressing and sound is excellent.

Edited 3 years agoSounds fantastic. One of my favourite records to pop on and 'relax' to! playing the original from my CD copy of Quake on my mini hifi back in the day, so it's great to relive this in a new style of media.
It's fascinating to observe some of the distorted sounds and theorise on their origins. I can hear some crashing waves and even a buzzing fly on some of the tracks :)
Highly recommended (and you should definitely Google around for the unreleased liner notes, they're wonderful to read). -
I get chills listening to this--muscle memory taking me back to that time when the monsters were after me and I was desperately trying to find one more box of NIN ammo for my nailgun...still creepy as hell 25 years later!
This remaster is really well done, I used to play this game with headphones and there are new details in the music that I don't hearing as clearly, if at all, so I'm really pleased with this release. Anyone who is a fan of the game or Nine Inch Nails should enjoy this release. -
Just picked it up brand new sealed, sound was a little off, so washed it and now plays perfect and silent….great LP

My copy played through perfectly. There was pretty much no crackle, skips or surface noise. Definitely recommended. (By the way my copy was sealed).
