Hard to find Mecca gem 'You Brought It On Yourself' in a lovely copy as well as Sunny Gale's Vince Montana production from the still digitally unavailable RCA disco comp from '76 are just 2 of a stunning track list on this

Edited 4 years agoIt's an O.K. installment in the venerated series from Z records..similar to the previous volume by Winston - both a 3/5 for me - in that you'll get some dance-floor killers here...but just a few that you'll want to play again and again.
There's a smattering of top drawer tracks on Disc 1 - in particular the selection from Coco York through to Jay Player is fantastic - as is the legendary G.C. Cameron track at #11, which is also a high point on Sean P's "Originals Volume 3" in the storied Claremont 56 limited numbered series - but IMHO - Under the Influence volume 8 mostly peters itself out after that.
Disc 2 has more of an Italo Disco focus and while for some, that's great, but, for me, it's just not my thing. I also didn't rate any particular track as exceptional on Disc 2 (In particular, a better Love Exchange track could've been chosen, such as "Let's Get Together" or "Can't Hold This Feeling" - both are MUCH better than "Do You Want My Love"!)....as I did for several selections on Disc 1.
Overall, I'd recommend getting the Paul Phillips volume in the series - #2. It's still my favorite! Also, if Z Records is reading, how about choosing either A) Volcov (Enrico Crivellaro), B) Patrick Gibin or C) Zaf for Under The Influence Volume 9?
