This mastering isn't particularly wonderful - it's quite compressed, muddy and lifeless, so I'll definitely be looking out for another copy. Don't bother with this one.
-
Don't know where all the fuss is about, this master is one of the best I have had (including the original), the guitar tones are the most natural I've ever heard on a record master. If you have the chance to pick this one up, do! Dead flat and silent pressing!

Edited one year agoGot this at walmart for $15.......why not?? It is nowhere as good sounding as my SH/KPG version but that's ok. It still plays very nicely and will replace some of my SH/KPG version spins. Pressed by Optimal Media its flat and dead silent......

I just got this from walmart for 15$ black friday sales clear vinyl is pretty plays great it sounds good... what would be a good ref to compare the mix and sound?
-
Unfortunately this pressing uses the horrible mix that was used for the recent EU pressing. Muddy and muted. Looks cool, though. But from a sonic perspective you are far better off trying to get the Pressed At Pallas American pressing that came out some time ago (mastered by Steve Hoffman). It's such a shame that this legendary album has such a poor mastering out there...

Mine is dead quiet on side one... sounds as good as the 70's press i have
Mine didn't have a "clear" hype sticker of any kind.. pleasantly surprised when opened to find "clear" vinyl! -
Does anybody know if this pressing uses the same mix as the single-vinyl version that was released in 2009 and again with the 2013 deluxe edition? I've always felt that that version is muted and dull...is this any different? Thanks.

Edited 5 years agoThis same release on Clear Vinyl is also sold at Walmart with sticker that say's "Exclusive Clear Vinyl", "Only at Walmart". Catalog Number, Barcode and Made in the EU is all the same. Just the sticker on the front (Shrink wrap) cover is different.
The Clear Vinyl record itself is "Crystal Clear Vinyl" which is very nice! -
First copy I bought was unplayable on side 1, popping and persistent crackle that obliterated the quieter ages. Swapped it over and the replacement was all good.
