I'm a huge REM fan and Monster is my favourite album of theirs. It's one of my all time top albums and have it on every format.
I've just been listening to the Bluray surround sound and comparing it to the 2005 surround sound mix, I've got to say the blueray version sounds quite weak. I much prefer the 2005 mix but that's just my opinion. -
Edited 5 years agoI'm not sure what the point of the 2019 remix is/was. It seems much less interesting than the original mix, overall. I had a bad feeling when I first heard the new version of "What's The Frequency, Kenneth?" and it sounded really bland compared to the original, which had that scorching tremolo riff. The entire point of "Monster" was to react to the past and move into the new. This more recent mix erases much of that vibe. In fact, the more I listen to the new mix, the more I feel that Scott Litt of 2019 doesn't what it was like to be Scott Litt of 1994. Ah well.

Not a very good concert recording at all. Doesn't sound like it was recorded straight from the board, but if it was, sheesh. And Stipe's vocal delivery sounds rather yelpy overall. Maybe it was an off night, the end of the tour; something seems off about it.
