Serpent's Egg was my introduction to the wonderful Dead Can Dance. Hard to believe, even now, that it was recorded in a high rise block on the Isle of Dogs in London. How such beautiful music could be created in such less than salubrious soundings is still incredible. Whilst LIsa Gerrard seems to get most of the praise for DCD's work, it's Brendan Perry's voice that I find so enthralling. It's a short album at just over 35 minutes long but there's not one duff track on it. Poetry in sound.

I need some help with finding my version of this record. The cover is this Dead-Can-Dance-The-Serpents-Egg/release/78866 version from Rough Trade/Megadisc. But the record is different I think that it`s this one The-Serpents-Egg/release/139318 the first UK release. Of course the covers can be changed in time by someone but the matrix from my record shows besides CAD 808-A and CAD 808-B also etched HC3871693. What does that mean?

What an album. This was the album that really turned me onto DCD. With songs like The Host of Seraphim, Mother Tongue and Severance, this album can be a cathartic experience. This is a must have for the collector and fan alike. The production of the album is through the roof and the vinyl is very quiet and mastered perfectly. Every instrument and voice is perfectly fit into the tapestry of this album. This is an album that shows the art of creating an album as an end in and of itself as much as showcasing the songs it contains.
