Really, really enjoying this. Back in the day I was far too cool to be in the Thompson Twins 🤷♂️ but a few years ago I picked these up for £3.00 each (This and the Into The Gap deluxe). It’s taken me those 3 years to actually play the things but now I have
A) These sound great. I’m not getting any sense of brickwalling. I can crank it up and it sounds the business. That’s fantastic for a modern mastering.
B) The songs ? On one hand, sooooooo 80s. The drums, the strident Jupiter synth chord stabs and synth brass. But, those songs !? Certainly on this album you can still pick up the residue of their post -punk incarnation. I love Alannahs vocals, and Tom sounds uncannily like a more melodic Gary Numan, especially on Kamikaze. Not sure if We Are Detective is good or bad. It veers a bit close to novelty for my liking. Yet, it’s also very well made novelty.
There’s an innocence on this album which really sits nicely alongside the professional sheen of the production. I can see why they became so big briefly. Their look though. Hmmm. I can’t be harsh. Again - it’s the bloody 80s.
It’s great having the cassette extra tracks. I had the cassette back in the day, but as I said above, I was a cool Depeche Mode fan and the Thompson Twins were far too frivolous for my arch sensibilities. Now I’ve grown up and crawled out of my arse I know I’ll be playing this a lot this year. It’s got summertime stamped all over it.
Less keen on Into The Gap. The fun seems to have gone.
Anyway a resounding 5 stars AND WHY CANT ALL REISSUED REMASTERED RELEASES SOUND LIKE THIS ? WHY ????????? -
Great 2 CD set and nearly everything is here. For some reason though, the version of Love On Your Back that appears here is not the same version that appears on the B side of Love On Your Side. It's not as good either IMO.

What an incredible quality re-release.
First there's the package itself, the booklet folds out into an impressive sheet packed with pictures of the band and the original sleeves for the various vinyl, cassette & picture disc editions of the singles.
Next we have the album itself, which still sounds excellent even by todays standards.
This excellent set also includes for the very first time the 'Special Cassette Remixes' and a further eleven 12" mixes and B-sides.
This album is a testament to just how important the Thompson Twins were to the 80`s sound and style of that time.
The quality of this reissue sets new high standards, lets hope they are followed through to other releases which come under the same title of `Reissue Albums`of the future.
