I'm not sure which came first, but if you listen to the B2 version of this tune - it's basically the same as "The King" by Rhythmic State, on Massive Respect. I'm guessing they'd been asked to make the tune for MC Bee (the A side), and decided to rework something they already had, rearrange it a bit and add MC Bee's samples, to make their "remix" for the B side.

"The King" even contains the famous "rock that body, rock that thing" sample that Scott Brown focuses his remix on. That's how separate Scott's remix is - even the vocals aren't MC Bee...obviously that remix was very popular, so Scott later remixed it as one of his own tunes (Rock that Body) - and just for extra confusion, Ultimate Buzz also released an entirely separate tune called "Rock Da Bass", with the same sample revoiced by MC Bee (produced by Andy Haldane).

Essentially Check Da Bass was Callan Bright's idea but because he didn't have the equipment at the time to make music he approached Andy Cocozza and Nick Williams to produce the track. The Scott Brown remix is really a Scott Brown production, Scott did not give Callan permission to play his remix in the Ultimate Buzz live PAs, but Callan played it anyway, which lead to a falling out between the two, such that Scott Brown released his own version of the track which you can hear on Evolution Records 23!

      RIP Callan Bright.

The Scott Brown remix of this record really made this otherwise poor tune stand out. It probably launched the careers of Ultimate buzz. All thanks to the remix by Mr Brown, which I am sure everyone gave them credit for when they performed live but most clued up listeners will recognise Scott's unique style on everything he remixed on his labels and in most cases his remixes were better than the original versions.
I can't recall any tune by Ultimate buzz sadly that stands out as even remotely memorable apart from this remix and for that we must thank Scott brown for making it so much better.
