U V O I I – Sound Of Heaven

A album that surprised me for the better after not bothering with this album since its original debut release date back... Curiosity brought me back to this album! Which I now appreciate much more now than I did originally back in 1994, now 2017. The album is interesting, diverse, unusual in a style that brings together Ambient, Downtempo, Experimental, Modern Classical and even Techno in a eccentric oddity way, even for Fax! A listen that brings a sense of wondering in how to categorise this album with its recognisable but eccentric and experimental, even arty approach to its different genres used across the entire album. Even some surreal 'William Borrough's' spoken tribal-vocal-poetry is here, plus some occasional Middle Eastern sounds and instruments - making this album interesting and a compelling listen even when though might be left what to think of this album at first! But do play it again. And then again!!! You'll start to unravel a creative, challenging and odd listen that has folds and layers of mind altering depth that can unexpectedly take you into a mysterious, surreal, trippy, and even spiritual inner-self mind journey when listening. If you like things different, challenging, adventurous, unique, mind altering and open minded to electronic eccentric music - then this could very well be worth checking out. I'm certainly glad to have kept it and will permanently remain in my FAX album collection!

Track one opens with a very somber violin followed by a slow build of synthesizers. The violin still maintains the focus throughout. At 15:50 is when the poetic like vocals take hold. Samples swirl around the words. Sometimes the words tend to fade into your mind, and you are more focused on the music.

Track two has loosely tribal sound that seemingly breaks into a quirky bass beat. The techno direction slowly takes over, and very uncharacteristic of the previous track. This track is slow moving in direction, and may bore some. Some chanting type vocals emerge. Again, very different than the previous vocals. -14:30 the violin briefly returns to calm the vocals down. The music changes, yet still techno. The poetry is rather comical. We a graced with the violin again, which seems to be the highlight of the album.

Track three brings an old skool techno sound. Some interesting bass sequences meddled with older styled trance. The trance is actually good, and adds the tribal sounding vocal. The best track thus far. a nice hypnotic old skool track.

Track four starts off sounding middle eastern. This is mixed with some ambient driftings. The music is rather light, and sends the disc off in a happy and calm feeling.

The disc has some wonderful moments, and even with the vocals and poetry. Not a top ten, but an interesting romp into the outer worlds of the FAX label.

This is one of the most interesting and unusual releases of FAX records, and the only one with 'real' vocals. I actually didn't know what to expect when I first bought it, and it immidiately got my ears, at the first time I played it.

It starts with a gloomy, folk violin theme, which develops into a brilliant 21 minutes piece, combined with electronic sounds that sends it to outer space. I still have no idea what Blaine L Reninger is preaching about (Soundtrack of what?), but it's totally match the music and atmosphere, and functions like an instrument. In the the second track its getting even better. 'Gods Picture on the Internet', 'a bitmap full of pixels' - maaan what the hell are you talking about? lol Again, violin, and some Jibrish, over a hypnotic electronic sounds and beats.

"Enanariyo" - is just a sample of the precious track, (from the jibrish part) placed on a dub/dance track. A bit low, after 2 most amazing, 20 minutes tracks, but OK for itself. The last track is an ethnic chill out tune. Sort of a landing after the long flight.

Another brilliiant album, like many others, which shouldn't been released just as an another limited edition CD on FAX records, and get more promotion. Dunno) though their 2nd album ain't so good as this one.
