I think a lot of the "surface noise" people are hearing is actually just unwanted snare vibration on White's drum

Received mine during the week and can happily report my copy is perfect. No QC issues and nice SQ. I haven't listened to a lot of The Dead Weather's music before, but will now explore their back catalogue off the back of this great set.

Received my Vault Package #32 yesterday. HOLY QUALITY CONTROL BATMAN!
My A/B record has SO MUCH edge trim left on it and the same surface noise others are reporting.
The C/D record is dished pretty bad and will only lay flat on the platter when I us a clamp.
Emailed TMR today so we'll see... -
Edited 7 years agoI'll update as I listed, but so far I haven't had a good start. The A side is stuck on a loop before the stylus gets a chance to start moving into the grooves - and no matter how precisely I try to place it into the starting grooves, the stylus skips across and a few seconds into the opening track. Surface noise is also pretty horrible for the first song - but it gets better.
Side B was pretty good throughout.
Side C, and this is a REAL shame, has some consistent pops for the first couple of minutes. It's a quaint quiet track, so this is particularly annoying.
Side D is perfect.
I have ed Third Man, we'll see what happens.
Update: Third Man got back to me in ONE HOUR and they're sending a new A/B LP my way tomorrow! Great, great service. Hopefully with future presses of The Vault coming from Third Man's plant, we'll never again have to worry about these problems :)
Update 2: Replacement A/B arrived! While side A doesn't loop in the entry groove anymore, it does seemingly just start playing seconds into the first track. Does the intro track not fade in? Or have I ended up with another shoddy copy? oh well... -
I received mine yesterday. Oh my god. The B side label was printed horribly bad. It looked like United pressed the heck out of that label, the A side had so much surface noise that it was hard to listen to. I didn't use a Crosley turntable. I used an Audio Technica AT-LP120. The Third side was out of center with the grooves. I didn't want to ruin my record cartridge at all. The D side was fine. Disc 1 had a cropping error. There was a small chip on the edge of the record. I'm sending my defected copy back to TMR to get it replaced.
