The Postal Service is a long-distance collaboration between Ben Gibbard (singer/guitarist from Death Cab for Cutie) and Jimmy Tamborello (Jimmy recorded the Beachwood Sparks album Make the Cowboy Robots Cry and also records under the name Dntel). Ben and Jimmy sent music back and forth, between California and Washington, each adding new elements until the record was complete. The result is a sweetly charming, largely electronic album with a warmth not typically associated with the clicks-and-beeps set. As an added bonus, additional vocals on the record are provided by Jen Wood and Rilo Kiley’s Jenny Lewis.

Sounds great on first listening. First side was a little sibilant, and the disc itself is filthy - a skip on both sides. That aside, no surface noise and nice, clear, and dynamic. -
They should’ve let the OG first press clear vinyl be the only clear vinyl.

In reference to variant 5 and a new SID 2U3Z. This splendid edition has been with me from the beginning and it sounds fantastic! -
Wonderful sounding album. Very crisp and dynamic. I just upgraded to a Fluance RT85 with blue ortofon and it sounds better than with my Uturn Orbit. Highly recommend the red OG pressing. So happy with this! -

It's very noisy, but that's mainly due to the vinyl noises on the tracks themselves. I feel like that lends a cool and more authentic experience when listening; it's as if it's how it was meant to be played. -
Edited 10 months agoOverall I think this pressing is pretty solid. Mine is warp free and tracks just fine. It’s got good presence overall, and Ben’s vocals sound great. It was pretty dirty out of the shrink so had to clean it up good before play. Kind of a noisy recording anyway (lots of intentional surface noise). and the few pops and clicks I have imo add to the charm of the recording. I’ve had this variant since its release and have been happy with it ever since. Great album. -
I don't have the other pressing to compare it to, but my copy sounds amazing. Dead quiet between tracks. Practically no surface noise. Lots of detail in the soundstage. Of course, there are a lot of popping sounds and even some crackling intentionally put into the tracks, so I had to listen to the digital version afterwards as a comparison to that. Really happy with this release!
