Great sounds, great package, great important album that got lost for a bit until the heads excavated it. Another Joel Dorn production, this time without a wacky exposition. This album lives where electric jazz, soul and protest music meet. Ya need it. Ya still need. Ya'll always need it, until late late late Capitalism squeezes the last drop out of the planet.

180 gram vinyl can’t make up for the flat lifeless sound of this reissue. This cult classic is powerful musically (and lyrically) which is why even this Music on Vinyl reissue sounds “good”, the music transcends the lack of reverence given to this release, specifically as far as the sound. However if you A/B this with the original release or even the 2021 reissue you will hear how much you’re missing. Really, if it’s authentic sound you’re seeking don’t bother with this version.
The good news is the limited release 2021 Real Gone Music reissue, cut from the original master, is still available through resellers here and is ONLY vinyl reissue backed by the McDaniels Estate because the sound rivals the original release. -
Great record, terrific mastering and excellent high quality pressing. Sounds awesome. Highly recommended!

Don’t waste your money on this reissue. Don’t get me wrong, Eugene McDaniels masterpiece and objectively his master work transcends even muffled, muddled sound. But why waste your money on Vinyl that has the sound quality of streaming? The sound on this Music on Vinyl reissue is muffled and muddy. A/B it with an original 1971 Atlantic release, as I did. Though I’m guessing if you had an original you wouldn’t be thinking of buying this reissue (I didn’t buy it either, it was sent to me gratis), except maybe to preserve your original. Again, don’t bother.
Of lessor concern, but nonetheless emblematic of this release, the jacket is flimsy, and cover color and artwork is washed out, muddy and dull, echoing the issues with the sound. -

Killer sound and fantastic pressing! The booklet is an insightful read and the purple vinyl is a nice treat. Also, props have to be given to Real Gone Music for using anti-static inner sleeves for this release! A lot of care was clearly given for this release so for $24, this pressing would be the one to go for if you're looking to pick up a copy!
