Does anyone know if the original 12" Full Version is available on CD anywhere?
The version on the CD-single is very different and nowhere near as good as the Original 12". -

Early 89 and underground house was really beginning to cross over by now. Dance music fans joked frequently enough about the MacHouse and MacAcid gravy train jumpers after $$$, bound to turn up. The scene continued to grow and grow, with bigger crowds than many huge stadia, numerous times per week, week after week throughout much of The UK. House had gotten big in Chicago, New York and Detroit. But the UK scene had become a phenomenon on a far different scale.
"Children of the Revolution" from Peter Ford (who I'd known a little, along with good times from a turntable in his garage and his studio) made me smile in clubs and fields at its kind of pastiched commercial nod. That fitted in perfectly anyway, genius as Peter is, with 1988 UK House's light hearted pastiche of disco and 70s musical kitsch. That is, I smiled at it - when the track didn't knock me out completely, taking me so deep.
The track not only had everything genuine underground house or acid house needed, whether each musical element was pastiched or not, they all cohered in simple repitition in basic alternating sections. Along with stunner beats this forms the most amazing deep trance house experience. (Particularly, but not exclusively, in the right place.) Like the best of house at the time, you'd hardly have guessed the incredible effect in the right place from a proper sound system if you'd just caught the track on Top of the Pops or the radio. You might have loved the excellent, rhythmic, hypnotic 7" track. But you still may never have guessed as to the dimension you were missing without the speaker pile experience.
This was clearly the one from the underground that wanted to be both an underground belter, keeping its home effect where it was intended, while also bringing in some pretty good earnings for Peter Ford. Genius.
By 89, while I raved through winter to the second Second Summer of Love, the reference and phenomenon of the song was iconic as a large and growing body of people realised we were part of something really big, incredible and lasting. A new hippy-like moment, movement and era. The Marc Bolan cover became an anthem for many for a while. (What a shame, to me, it only lasted around 6 years maximum, from 87 until maybe late 92 or so.
Great for others if they had something really meaningful after that though.)
I'll always celebrate this legendary track. Some fans, particularly on the more acid house side, also fans of more minimalist house, don't tend to think it's one of Baby Ford's best. As this is the one most people who weren't in the house scene know, if they know any, that may simply come from the exclusivity feeling. I don't know. It's really nothing to do with being puritanical though, because this was and will remain top underground house and acid house. To me "Children" couldn't make less than Number 1 Equals amongst the best of Ford's music. -

Edited 19 years agoFordtrax and Oochy Koochy are the same versions from the "Fordtrax" Double 12", and of course are top notch acid house tracks. The Full 12" Version of Children of the Revolution is by far the best version of this track. Do not confuse it with the Full 12" Version from the CD5. This version is a different mix and about 2 minutes longer. Why they didn't put this version on the CD5 I will never know.

A remake of 1960's T-Rex's "Children of the Revolution." Somewhat commercial, but Oochy Koochy was an extremely well produced "underground house" track. Neither tracks were very acidy in their original versions. Baby Ford's production quality was probably some of the best of this time for house music.
