Robert Calvert – Captain Lockheed And The Starfighters

Approach with caution, very much "of its time". I'm usually a big fan of anything Hawkwind related but this is an absolute clunker imho. The music's ok in a generic Hawkish way and its a potentially interesting subject - did the US knowingly offload the potentially lethal (to the pilot) Starfighter jet on - but the sub Monty Python "Ve haff vays of making you talk!" cod German are totally naff & make it pretty much unlistenable. For completists only.

I have this original version with insert containing lyrics and dialogue stapled to inside center of gatefold. United Artists label as per this version but it also includes the printed inner sleeve with German eagle in light blue on silver background not shown in the pictures here.

Ultra classic album, all the magic of peak era Hawkwind within a conceptual framework. Brilliant music and sound.

A brilliant underrated album. Like mid 70's period Hawkwind, doing several short hard rocking great tracks, interspersed with at times very humorous narration. An often overlooked classic.

This is a later release - brown UA labels with 'R' (ed trade mark) alongside. These labels only appear from '77 onwards. Also I don't believe this reissue had the pic inner sleeve, only a plain one.

I have exactly the same copy as listed (incl. correct matrix numbers, labels and so on) but no signs that there was ever a booklet stapled/glued/whatsoever to the inside of the gatefold - no staple holes, no residues... Is this a later/second press or was there a bunch of lps produced without? Does anyone have a clue?

This album should be in every music lovers collection, but get the original release, the BGO re-release does not sound as good.

Rumor is this was produced (uncredited) by Brian Eno. Anyone know?

I have this cover with 2 single sided test presses. Stamped matrix UAG 29507 A-1U and B-1U.
