Anyone know how this sounds compared to the 2018/2023 reissue?

Sounds good, but I expected more. I own the VMP as well... that one sounds more punchy, warm on the lows and crisper overall. Nice clean sound, cut loud although the wax is a bit noisy between tracks.

To me this version sounds less dynamic... much of the instrumentation bleeds together as one sound. Lacks the depth and punch I would hope for. This version is also cut low, but it's not a major issue since the surface noise is negligible.

This is a serviceable copy for a very rare album. I'm happy that it exists.

I just A/B/C'd the OG, orange VMP and yellow RGM pressings. My copy of the OG came to me in shrink, VG+ to NM, believe it or not, so it's a good comparison. My subjective opinion, without getting in all audiophile nutso on you, is OG > VMP > RGM. But the reissues sound excellent. The original just has some extra something...

Excellent. Don’t have anything to compare it to other than the other Maytals records that I’ve heard that include a lot of this material, but this seems to be an incredibly faithful and well done cut of this essential record. Quiet, lively, dynamic, and infinitely crankable. Buy or die.

sounds fantastic with barely trivial surface noise. the clarity and massive instrument separation in "Pressure Drop" is incredible. just about none of us will ever be able to compare this to a clean OG pressing, but this sounds fantastic on its own. total crusher.

Like the other reviewer, I had the VMP copy but sold it. This sounds the same to me, which is lovely, so I'm very glad it's back in print. No idea how long it'll be around though.

Mastering isn't very loud and the drums sit super low in the mix. Aside from that it sounds really good. So glad to have this on wax!
