Edited 7 months agoThis is the album version, not some silly remix, and it sounds outstanding. Like all of the Bowie 12 inches of this period, it just blows any other version out of the water. -
Edited one year agoCover says „Disco-Remix“. That‘s nonsense. You hear the album version. But: crystal clear. Worth the money, that‘s for sure! Strong buy! -
One of my and zoozillion people’s favourite 80’s Bowie track on 45. Enough said i guess. Kudos to the soundstage -
"Ashes to Ashes" isn't just a gem in the Bowie catalog. It's absolutely a landmark in composition and arrangement in service of communicating a state of mind, a real experience, a sickness, a loss of control and a threat to life.
The punctuated wobbly synth melody, the queasy guitars, the poignant lyrics, the voices that mumble in the background all paint a portrait of a man pushed to his limit by addiction, trapped by an invisible momentum that sweeps him towards his own destruction, and coming to grips with what is happening.
At the same time, there is an incredibly catchy and listenable song.
It's haunting and moving, but still with a tiny sliver of humor and self awareness.
Nothing could be done to improve it. -

I have a solid centre version of this translucent red vinyl. -
I think I have a copy of this here but the text '(PB 9575) BOW 6 A P 180 RCA Corporation' on the label below the 'BOW 6' is a variant as it is aligned right under the '6' – as opposed to the preview pictures here. Otherwise seemingly identical. -

This version was also sold in Australia. I bought mine from Palings in Brisbane when it had been out for only a couple of weeks. -
