Big sound. Quite bright but not harsh. One of the noisiest MoFi cuts ive owned though. The Pure Pleasure cut is much better vinyl but not as bright, however that might be better for some folks!
-
Super smooth sound and silent vinyl. Very crankable cut. Its smoother and quieter rhan the 2x45rpm MoFi. Pure Pleasure such an undersung label.

Edited one month agoThis sounds like crap to me. There is no improvement here compared to any other average pressing of this album. Lots of surface noise. Even the fabulous version of Wooden Ships doesn't escape from the cloudy mix of a distant guitar from Jorma. RCA Legacy from 2021 sounds better than this for at least half the price. The MoFi Surrealistic Pillow sounds great but not this one $15 hundred dollar Hanna stylus $4000 dollar E.A.T. Turntable Sonus Faber speakers. So it's not my equipment. It's digital MoFi crap

This doesn't sound good to my ears. Lots and lots of surface noise, distortion typical crap from RCA. Hopefully the MoFi will be better but I'm not optimistic

As others have noted this album is plagued with muddy sound, but once a few db's of treble are added, this pressing opens up like a sunflower in the summer, revealing a sweetly psychedelic totally holographic beautifully fidelious late 1960's stereo-mix par excellance. Thankfully the Canuck vinyl itself is dead-silent & is without surface noise even with the EQ tweak applied. Far out, man... -

It sounds less "muddy" than my 1969 Canadian pressing, however it's still not super-clear. The bass is much stronger on this one whick makes it sound more pleasantly lo-fi.
A question: Why was it not released in the UK until 1970? Concern about the MF-Bomb? -
Edited 10 months agoBonus tracks are stereo fold downs of the Quadrophonic versions of these tracks. While a couple of these ended up on the Loves You boxset, this release appears to be the only place some of these exist on CD afaik.

VERY different. Played with a Audio Technica cart with ML stylus, wonder if it sounds different with elliptical?

Edited one year agoDirect comparisons to my Terre Haute OG render the OG virtually useless to me. I’m not always a fan of Mofi’s mastering (and EQ tweaking), but it really works in spades on this reissue. The mud is gone, the soundstage is increased, and the mids and highs sing. Improvements all around. Highly recommended for fans of this album.

I've bought 2 VG+ used copies of this hoping to find better sound. Both sound muffled AF.
