Notes
Electric Ladyland is the third and final studio album by the Jimi Hendrix Experience and the final studio album released before Hendrix's death in 1970. A double album, it was the only record from the Experience produced by Hendrix. The band's most commercially successful release and their only number one album, it was released by Reprise Records in the United States on October 16, 1968, and by Track Records in the UK nine days later. By mid-November, it had reached number one on the US charts, spending two weeks there. In the UK it peaked at number six, where it spent 12 weeks on the chart.
Electric Ladyland includes a cover of Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower", which became the Experience's best-selling single, reaching number six in the UK and 20 in the US. Although the album confounded critics in 1968, it has since been viewed as Hendrix's best work and one of the greatest rock records of all time. Electric Ladyland has been featured on many greatest-album lists, including Q's 2003 list of the 100 greatest albums and Rolling Stone's 2020 list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, on which it was ranked 53rd.
UK sleeve 'day of release' copies include:
- the White Text version = regular: example 2
- Ghost Version = overprinting of a rejected tracklist
- dual label copies with ABCD labels covering original 1,4/2,3 labels to cover up difficulties in plate matching at the pressing plant.

Weiß jemand aus welchen Jahr diese Pressung ist? Habe die schon ewig und bin vom Klang und dem Cover soweit auch sehr glücklich damit.

Edited 7 days agoI just found an EX copy of this release, it looks gorgeous with the fully laminated gatefold cover.
-
These first issue UK cassette editions sound amazing with loud playback and the dynamic range is outstanding.

Every so often I will receive a record that will knock me on my ass and have me thinking about it days later. This is one of those few. The one thing I haven't read a comment about here is the 3D imaging and soundstage. It has to be the best record I own for this. Every song but Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) is completely insane - the music travels through you and around you - has to be experienced (proper speaker placement required, etc.) to believed.
Then there is the midrange. It's at the very tippy top of my collection also. The texture, the holographic imaging again, the tone and completely unveiled.
The only nitpick I have is that I would like to hear Mitch higher in the mix but then it wouldn't sound like it does - which is a masterpiece. I don't know how they (engineers) did it. -

for my ears, this is a bad remastering... nothing more to say. -
I've been familiar with the early 90's CD for so long this sounds somewhat the same, somewhat different. Track 1...and the Gods Made Love seems like a very different mix on vinyl here. I may be imagining things. I'd have to really check to be sure. Generally this Australian '76 vinyl sounds somewhat dark. But it might be more of a side A, B thing...the first half of the record. Long Hot Summer Night sounds pretty bad. Very vieled vocal, muddy generally and poor volume on the vocal. Side C seems to have more brightness. I dunno, much of the album sounds quite nice but there is a sense of darkness & Long Hot Summer Night...such a great fun song is really subdued and flat. All Along the Watchtower sounds awesome, so does Voodoo Child (Slight Return) & side D sounds great. So maybe a mixed bag. Not sure if it's this pressing or if that's the way the album always was. Overall, I can only imagine the album is closer to the original release sound than any CD I might have heard. Obviously, more modern reissues and re-masters generally correct problems or try to. No doubt I'm more familiar with re-masters. The early 90's CD anyway. So, rambling aside, happy to have this 1976 Australian copy. Would love to hear what others think.
-
inner groove distortion on both sides of the album.
The concert sounds.. well like a bootleg. I can’t understand why Bernie would put his initials on such a crappy sounding bootleg -
-
I am very much surprised that nobody is screaming around that this version is pressed from the same stampers as UK 1st pressing Track release. If you don't care about the nude ladies cover and you care about the sound first then it is the most affordable way to get the 1st pressing sound at affordable price and on best German quality vinyl. Highly recommended!
