This European version is the stripped down version. Consisting mainly of all the heavy songs this album has most of the softer melodic elements and tracks taken off. I would only suggest this version if you are not interested in the full spectrum of sound and feeling that is animal rights. Those soft tracks really tie it all together in my opinion.
I will say, though this version is good if you wanna get straight to the grit. I got both versions. -

Even though it's a single LP that could span into double, it sounds fantastic, aggressive sound that screams for high volume on the stereo kit, neighbours allowed!!!!! -

I should have listened to this on Spotify before blind buying. It’s awful lol. Angry punk synth randomness. Wow. Maybe Mobys worst record. -
This record sounds as amazing as I , especially on vinyl. The sound is really dynamic, heavy bass, full mids and clear highs. I cannot recall a reissue sounding this good in quite some time, definitely a good bet if you're looking this gem.

Excellent sounding pressing. I would definitely recommend this version to anyone who enjoys this album! -

This album sounds nothing like “Play” or “Go”. It may get bad reviews but there are still some gems on here! “Alone” and “A Season In Hell” are masterpieces! “Anima” is another great track. -

The Notes listed at the top of the main entry for this album are incorrect. I may take the time to submit the correct information or I may not. People sometimes get offended and change them back and that's annoying, so for now I'll just put it here as a comment.
The 1996 version (Version One) is not a UK/Europe exclusive. As you can clearly see here Elektra – 7559-61937-2 that Version One was also released in the U.S. (and the rest of the world). Trust me, I own that version of the album. It's the version I first purchased, much to my confusion, in 1996. That 12 track version of the album WAS released worldwide, including the U.S.
The 2 CD edition of Version One that includes the Little Idiot ambient bonus disc WAS exclusive to the UK, and . At least it was exclusive in theory, it was easily purchased in the U.S. at that time as an import. I know, because I also purchased that edition of Version One.
Where the confusion with UK and U.S. "versions" seems to be coming from is the 1997 Promo cassette for Version Two Elektra – 4-61937-P that is titled "U.S. Version". However, that cassette promo is the ONLY release of Version Two to contain that distinction. Version Two was also officially released in Japan, Australia, Canada, Brazil and South Korea.
For extra added fun the Japanese release of Version Two does of course still contain an extra track (New Dawn Fades).
Honestly, I'm not really sure there was much point to Version Two beyond saving Alone from getting lost as the last track on the Bring Back My Happiness Maxi-Single released at the beginning of 1996. Alone wasn't included on the earlier remix only versions of Bring Back Bring Happiness released in 1995. It was only included on Bring Back My Happiness Maxi-Single that also contained In My Life, a track that would have fit VERY nicely on Animal Rights. Strangely, it was never included on any version of that album.
Bring Back My Happiness was the last single from Everything Is Wrong, an album cycle that had started with Hymn all the way back in May of 1994. Alone always deserved better than to be left as a b-side to a single from an album that had already been worked to death, so it was nice they gave it a spot on an official album. That being said, in the process of mashing together Version One of Animal Rights and the Little Idiot bonus disc with Alone and Anima (the latter being the only song that is actually exclusive to Version Two of Animal Rights) they left off My Love Will Never Die from Version One, as well as (arguably) some of the best tracks from Little Idiot. Like, who thought it would be a good idea to NOT include Dead City, the ambient version of Alone, on a release that included Alone?
The whole thing makes me wonder if Moby submitted Alone and In My Life to the label early in the process of making Animal Rights as an idea of what he was working on and someone got the bright idea to toss them on a maxi with the Bring Back My Happiness remixes as a way to milk the last dollars out of the Everything Is Wrong album cycle. In hindsight that would make sense. We now know that Moby does in fact do re-workings of his demos, sometimes adding beats to ambient tracks and turning tracks with beats into ambient ones (it's possible he continued working on Dead City and it became Alone, or vice versa, since Alone was actually released first).
The Everything Is Wrong Mixed Remixed 2CD was also released in Jan of 1996, but there wasn't room for Alone on that and In My Life wouldn't have made sense there. So if they were early submissions of what Moby was working on in between the two albums then some record executives did a less than stellar job of selecting the tracks for and sequencing of BOTH versions of Animal Rights.
Anyway, that's my two-cents about the whole thing in 2020. Hope it proves helpful or informative for someone out there. -
