I the first time I heard this was at a New Years Party in 1981. I wouldn't hear the song again for another 15-20 years. Was as great as when I first heard it...

Litman & Cox Club Mix is an amazing remix of this classic song, must listen! -
The most influential hip hop track of all time. I could go deep into history, but I'd rather take the time to organize more of my music collection.

Boston is the first city mentioned in the city role call, hommage to Arthur Baker's hometown. -
Edited 5 years ago...why is this version stated a first pressing and not the version with the C and P? like the TB812 jazzy's sensation has also the C and P and why is the lack of SSF of side B credit a sign of an earlier version? can everybody confirm this note on this submission...? THX

Arthur Baker: "Basically, no one at that time had an 808. This is a true story: we saw an ad in the Village Voice that said, "Man with drum machine, 20 dollars a session." [laughs]
So we called him up and said, "Come on in." The programmer of the drum machine had no idea what the fuck we were doing. "You want me to do what?" We played him Kraftwerk, and we showed him what to program. It was all through a Neve, which is an amazing [mixing] board. We went in there: me, Bam and John Robie.
John had a Micromoog and a Prophet-5. This was the first time we'd got to use a polyphonic synth, because I was always using the Moogs. Strangely enough, there was also a Fairlight there. You can probably do what the Fairlight did on a $1,000 computer now. Back then, the Fairlight was probably worth over $100,000 or more. It was taking up a lot of space, but it had a few sounds in it, one being this sort of explosion sound, which we used in the break, and the orchestra, the infamous orchestra.
We wanted to make a record that people into Talking Heads and people into Sugar Hill Gang would play."
John Robie: “ Sorry but this MUST be said.
Planet Rock was to Hip Hop, what Roll Over Beethoven was to Rock.
You can argue till the cows come home about who invented Hip Hop but it is indisputable that Planet Rock laid the foundation for the explosion of Hip Hop as a musical and cultural phenomenon.
It created a sound that has been imitated for nearly 40 years.
It opened the door for RUN DMC and the Beasties.
It has been sampled hundreds of times (legally... who knows how many times otherwise), it has been and continues to be (along with Perfect Beat) licensed for use in countless movies and TV shows.
It squarely put the 808 on the map.
I could go on.
Yet Soul Sonic Force has never even been considered for nomination.
With Bam’s problems, that will of course never happen but even prior to that, the group (which is for all intents and purposes an entity unto itself) was never even considered.
Please know that this isn’t about me.
I’m not the one who would be nominated so it doesn’t apply.
But Biggs is still my brother and it pisses me off no end that arguably the most influential group in Hip Hop history..... the one that opened the floodgates...... the first to set the stage for the marriage of electronic music and rap..... the group that made THE most iconic record of the genre, has been ed over.
Maybe if they made a record with Aerosmith they would’ve slipped in.
But here we are.” -
