COMPLETE SET OF 3 Cloth Bound 3 LP Box Sets!!! All with individual thick booklets. Rare original first high quality pressing from 1967!!!!! All complete with booklets and comes housed in luxurious cloth-bound outer box sets. Miyagi (1894-1956) was one of the great koto players of the twentieth century and a leader in a movement to absorb elements of Western music into Japanese music using traditional instruments. He progressively lost his vision and was totally blind by the time he was seven. Having already shown musical talent, it was natural for him to study koto, as there is a tradition that the most famous players of the instrument are blind. He wrote his first composition, Mizu no Hentai (Metamorphosis of Water), in 1909. He began to perform important concerts of his compositions beginning in 1919. His primary instrument was the zoku-so, or 13-string koto and in 1921, he invented a 17-string koto (jushichigen) and used it in his work Dance of Falling Leaves. The instrument became a success. This splendid collection of recordings covers a wide spectrum of his koto music; the compositions and recordings span his whole oeuvre, ranging from ancient traditional to modern Western influenced pieces. Undoubtedly, the most impressive element of the releases is that Michio Miyagi's works are an integral part of each of the recordings in this collection, performed with respect and devotion. By recording traditional Japanese music, Western classics, and the delicate blend of both, he hoped to expand the perceived limitations of the koto. And he succeeded. All recordings here were taped down while he was alive spanning from the late 1920s until his untimely death in 1956. Top condition and all-complete with THREE individual cloth bound 3 LP Box sets.
