Definitely cut a little hot but the dynamics are all there. A little bit of distortion on some of the more sibilant parts, and a few S sounds on the vocals, but great overall.

High quality pressing. Best Clipse album in my opinion and deserves more credit

Let's cut the critique. This is an amazing sounding pressing. Any distortion you find will certainly not detract from your listening experience. On first play, it brought me outta my chair. If you love this album, you want this pressing. Trust me.

Sound is really great. Some surface noise but it doesn't really break the experience. Not that noticeable

The first and the best of the brothers who spit slick, but barely memorable bars over the instrumentals from outer space. This the closest I have ever heard the Neptunes sound match the coke talk and Biggie flows. Yet as common as that might seem in hip-hop (especially at that era) the story of getting into the game by getting bricks from their grandma is as original as the emcee's discography with whom this brotherly-duo shares a surname with (Kool Keith, for the uninitiated).
Just out of the Star Trak camp, I would be remiss to mention that Fabolous actually sounds good here, an absolute rarity. Akin to Cam on "The Casket Drops" record, the Neptunes can bring the best out of artists not in their camp on these Clipse records , and even with obvious missteps like the Faith Evans t (which can be forgiven, for tying into the loose narrative of the LP), or the fact one of the Re-up Gang (either Coldchain or Liva) couldn't ride the beat for his life on "Goddamn", and Jada & Styles sounded dope as always but STILL should have done a trade-off on the LP closer "I'm Not You" - the singles in "Virginia", "Grindin" (That selector remix gets top marks for the international appeal. Plus I love women from the islands, and I have NEVER heard Sean Paul harmonize or spit like he did over this Neptunes shit ! ) , and "When's The Last Time" overlap anything questionable on this debut. All the potential is here in the pot that is this LP, now if only every Star Trak recorded sounded like "Virginia" and "When's The Last Time" - then the Clipse legacy would not be so marred.
