Autechre – Untilted

Untilted is one of those Autechre albums I enjoy every single bit of (others are Confield and Chiastic Slide). Twenty years on, I can still listen to it back-to-back, and it won't be enough.

Got it today for quite a decent price of 42$ for VG jacket and strong VG+ records and absolutely blown away by it. Didn't expect so much depth and clarity from this release. The only gripe with it is that records feel pretty flimsy but who cares if they sound awesome. Hope Warp will reissue it soon

Arguably among Autechre's most approachable works, which for many of their more ardent fans might count as points against it.

"Don't be that person," I say to myself. "Just enjoy it."

Maybe next year or two they will reissue this and Quaristice together

does someone mind telling me how the vinyl mix of this album differs from the cd?

Together with ""Confield", this is the pinnacle of Autechre for me (thus far). Just abstract enough not to bore, and just accessible enough not to be weirded out. It's almost endlessly rewarding, with lots of phantom melodies and easter eggs imbedded in the music.
And "Ipacial Section" is one of my all-time favorite pieces of music. I'm not sure what happened that day in the studio, but in the second half of the track you can hear an actual angel singing amidst the onslaught of relentless beats, gloriously unfazed by the mayhem of collapsing buildings, jumbled telephone lines and possessed TV sets around it, the gently glowing eye of the storm or perhaps the root cause of all the turmoil. Either way, it is really quite amazing.

This is Autechre's best work. It takes a while to grow on you, but when it does, it stays with you. Highly recommended.
