Martin Nonstatic – Ligand

it's always so interesting to me to read other people's opions about album releases. i have every martin nonstatic physical release as far as i know, and in my opinion, 'ligand' is where he really starts to release incredibly complex, beautiful music. i enjoy almost all of his music, but starting with 'ligand' it just becomes more dense and complex. this album, 'treeline' and the recently released 'pulsatille' are his best works so far in my opinion. they have become more diffuse in some sense, but are just so chock full and merit repeated listenings. others apparently disagree, but i know what i like in my wardrobe!

Martin Nonstatic is extremely hit or miss so I opted to purchase the cheapest option possible for this album a few years back. For some reason this far exceeds any of his other work on Ultimae. I can actually individual tracks, which isn't something I can say for most of his work. Perhaps because he goes ultra-minimalist on this one, so the swaying dub of Outermost Structure and the piano on Kepler's Laws stays lodged in my head without the usual glitchy distracting effects van Rossum is otherwise so addicted to.

Sadly his later work on Ultimae falls off, but it's nice to hear his work in the form of single tracks on VA compilations like Isolated (2022). Is it because he isn't built for LP output or the genre dictates it to be thus?

Anyway, if you're going to buy any of his stuff add this to your cart first, you won't be disappointed.

Another bland album with soft tracks that go nowhere. Martin Nonstatic's two albums prior to ing Ultimae Records were actually more interesting in my opinion.

Masterpiece !

Every piece of this album delights me and is unique in its kind, but it's the most entertaining track is Parallel Thoughts and one of the best and most beautiful tracks I've heard in the last few years. I can easily say that this person is one of the best contemporary electronic musicians.
