If this is the power of supervinyl, then I wish my entire collection was full of it. This is undoubtedly one of the best sounding records that I own, and it’s a beyond incredible album as well. I will be listening to this endlessly, for many many years to come.

I just picked up a copy of this record online, thinking it was this pressing, but got something slightly different. Packaging and record are identical to this pressing, except there is a '見本盤' promo mark on each label (followed by a little '6/5') and the vinyl does not appear to be JVC Supervinyl (it's not translucent). Side A runout is identical, side B runout is almost identical - after '111' it has two little groups of dots and then a plus.

Is there another promo pressing that's not in Discogs or is it just https://discogs.cinepelis.org/ja/release/3681331-Yukihiro-Takahashi-Neuromantic in the wrong sleeve (there's no 見本盤 on the sleeve of mine)?

Top quality product, case, booklet etc absolutely wonderful Japanese production in a slightly bigger, fantastic quality jewel case - couldn't be happier. However low dynamic range and clipping on lots of the tracks... WHY HAVE THEY DONE THIS. WHY.

A hidden gem. May he rest in peace.

In my opinion, it’s not worth getting the 2021 remastered pressing, since this first pressing is still fairly cheap - and also because this one was manufactured with JVC’s Supervinyl.

~~ RIP Yuki, you were truly brilliant in your talents over the years and will be missed by millions. 🖤 ~~
They weren't kidding with "Supervinyl". I had heard of these before, read the history, what makes them unique, why they were eventually banned from production, etc. Usually with records, something called "Supervinyl" leans more into marketing hype than anything else. Visually speaking, my copy is VG+ and features the typical amount of VG+ wear expected on a record over 40 years old. Here's the cool part though: it plays absolutely perfectly, full stop. Dead silent, no distortion, nothing obtrusive at all. The low end sounds fuller, and the highs sound more detailed than the 1980s CD version of this album. Certainly more dynamic than later reissues. The excellent production by Takahashi himself really shines here. Forget any of the squashed-sounding remasters that have come out recently and go for this instead. This sounds incredible. Kudos to JVC for this long forgotten manufacturing process. I get it now.

even on streaming, you can hear how absurdly compressed these new yukihiro takahashi remasters are. the original alfa pressings sound pretty compressed to begin with, but these remasters are worse in that regard. further, the alfa originals sound warmer while these sound bright, hard, fatiguing, and unpleasant. it's bad digitally and can't be that much better on vinyl if the vinyl is cut from the exact same files (it probably is). avoid this and get an original which is around the same price if not cheaper.

There are too many good things happening on this album to mention. Every time I listen it moves further up my list of favorite albums. 5 stars.

Grows on me with each listen. When I first heard it it didn't leave much of an impression on me and I quickly put it back on the shelf. But every time I pull it back off the shelf I like it more and more.

The sound reminds me heavily of YMO in their BGM phase, mixed with the pop sensibilities of their Naughty Boys album. It's not a prefect album for sure but I like Takahashi's personality throughout, he is probably the soppiest and most song orientated member of YMO and it comes through here. Tracks like Connection, Glass and Drip Dry Eyes are simply fun listens while tracks like New (Red) Roses add a bit of variety and act as nice diversions. This is basically another YMO album focused around Takahashi's songwriting. The album features Hosana and Sakamoto throughout as well as Phil Manzanera and Andy Mackay (both of Roxy Music) and New Musik's Tony Mansfield.
