Suffocation – ...Of The Dark Light

The once-new album of the great Suffocation really became a new chapter in the career. There is an obvious evolution of the band here, which is not easy enough for the old fan guard to accept... and what to do!? Now the album looks like a kind of prudently thought-out, composed and redorded for a cold head, and surgical precision emphasizes the healthy cynicism of the authors of this music: they are gutting here unceremoniously and in cold blood, they first loudly pulled on a latex glove and picked up a sterilized scalpel instead of the usual butcher's ax.

The album is a monolith, the tracks changing "in one breath", the compositions are cut from pieces of different dynamics and are full of difficult technical elements. Perhaps this is the most technical Suffocation album. Athough the band has always played quite powerfully and variously, demonstrating the level of mastery of musical instruments, this time it turned out to be a very concentrated piece of music, with a pronounced atmosphere and at the same time a specific dry sound. At first it was unusual, but in the end the album made a proper impression - it's just great!

The regular edition is well done, a gatefold with lyrics and a typical set of information. The vinyl is very thin, feels even less than 140 grams, but my copy sounds perfect. Of course, it was possible to make the release more interesting for a Suffocation-level band. This album deserves to be released on solid heavy vinyl and with some exclusive design elements. But for this money, this release is not bad, for lack of alternatives. Before buying vinyl, I had this album on disc for many years and of course vinyl sounds better. Vinyl perfectly conveys the nature of this music: excellent dynamics, more "muscular" rhythm section, more punching guitars. Vinyl adds some warmth to this deadly cold Death Metal =) Otherwise, my copy playbacks flawlessly, cleanly and quietly.

No issues with my copy. Got it for $20 on Amazon and arrived in perfect condition and sounds fantastic.

Excellent Death Metal Album! Picked this up day released and have played it several times, and the soundstage of pressing sounds dynamic w/good bass. The playing on this album compared to earlier releases is top notch (imho) the time changes, etc are impressive in any music genre. Caught them opening for Morbid Angel in June 2017 and despite a stand in vocalist am a new fan. Cheers

Also to note: the new recording of "Epitaph Of the Credulous" from "Breeding the Spawn" is so amazing it's unreal!

Just got my copy on white vinyl yesterday at record shop. The white looks awesome with the light blue artwork. Album sounds so amazing on my sound system! I had the bass up cause I was listening to a record with thin production the other day and forgot to turn back down, hah the bass from Terrance's guitar and from the bass drum almost blew a hole in my wall! This record is beastly!

Just caught Suffocation on tour with Morbid Angel and watched in amazement as Suffocation stole the show. This new album is brutal! It sucks Frank didn't tour and they got a stand-in but he has great energy and does the songs justice. Catch this tour if you can just don't expect much from Morbid. Buy this album! You won't regret it!
