Music is great, the mastering sounds spot on. But they certainly dropped the ball when it came to quality control. Lots of clicks and pops, so sounds seondhand right out of the package. A bit better after a wet cleaning, but not much.
-
This pressing is terrible. Mine is filled with noise artifacts throughout.
They should be ashamed to sell this.
Pity because the music is great. -
Very disappointing release after such a long wait.
'Blueberry Hill' is the wrong recording
'Mandala' uses part one instead of the featured part two.
Olivers apartment jazz waltzy track missing.
Bryces introduction on campus music missing.
Weird ascending music just before 'Blue Bayou' missing.
John Phillips tracks are mostly weaker alternate mixes or unused in the film eg Jazz II, Rhumba Boogie -
Edited 5 years agoSure, some music is missing, but I'm glad someone finally released most of it on CD. Ironically, now I only listen to a CDR I made of the Stomu Yamashta and John Phillips tracks.

Edited 8 years agoSome of the John Phillips music on this edition is not the same as what is heard in the film. 'Window' & 'Alberto' are either alternate versions or different mixes. Also missing is the jazz music that Farnsworth plays in his apartment at the beginning of the film.
The cues known as 'Window', 'Alberto' & the unknown jazz music I refer to above were part of the mysterious incidental music in the film that fans had been asking about for years, so much so that no one was even certain as to who composed it. Now we finally know, but this edition uses different versions of those cues unfortunately. And that jazz music at the beginning of the film is still uned for.
I'm sure the people who put this edition together did the very best they could with whatever was on those recently found master tapes, but I can't help but feeling a bit disappointed that the 3 or 4 pieces by John Phillips that I most wanted over the years are the very same cues which have different(re: not as good as the film) mixes, or are still missing(mystery jazz track) with no mention of them in the liner notes of this edition.
It's a shame because this music is not available anywhere else, unlike all of the other pieces in the soundtrack. So we will probably never get the actual versions that John Phillips composed for the film.
