The Kinks – Muswell Hillbillies

Just picked this up , for a Dynaflex pressing this is very quiet . The mid range is good , bass & highs sound muted . All in all a great Kinks album that runs under the radar .Streaming it thru Spotify thru a good DAC and adjusting to high gain sounds better then the vinyl, not sure if any of the re-releases sound better .

I am a bit skeptical about the etched runouts.. Are we sure this is not a counterfeit ? How does it sound ?

My god the instrumentation on this album is the absolute best. Several sounds all at once but each is perfectly balanced, it’s all just…too good. Superlative. Largely acoustic guitars and other anastruments - clarinets, oboes, piano…it’s perfect. Vinyl is a tad flat, I tend to load the treble somewhat but it’s all there, it’s majestic.

Just listening to this version. Seems to have excellent sound for my taste. I can't if I have the other version from a year earlier.

Awesome record. Love the songs, well recorded. One of the best Kinks records. You can’t go wrong with this one.

Side 2 is a tad bit warped. The Dyna flex effect?

An album every rock fan should hear at least once. One of The Kinks' best!

Great sounding album. Probably the best I have heard but the mix on many of the songs is noticeably different that the US releases.

I like the different mix. It's more organic and less produced. For example, have a cup of tea is more "country" and loose.

The music sounds like they all piled into the recording studio and cut the songs live with no overdubs.

Highly recommended.

after reading these reviews. I expected shit. after finding what appeared to be a roach turd stuck in my pressing. I expected shit. But other than some light surface noise I can find nothing wrong here. My copy is dynamic with clear separation.

Along with THE VILLAGE GREEN PRESERVATION SOCIETY, this is my favorite Kinks album. Others vie for the Kwintessential Krown from time to time, but these two are the toppermost of the poppermost. If you have friends who don't like the Kinks, play them this album when they're intoxicated. They will be Konverted. This is an OG pressing, a 1971 Hollywood, and it sounds impressive, with plenty of bass, clear stereo separation, and a warm, full soundstage. My copy is in really nice condition, it plays really clean, I counted maybe 3 faint pops after a good wipedown, and it's got barely any surface noise. I got lucky with this one. Five stars and a happy face. GOD SAVE THE KINKS!
