Dutch series of hit compilations running from 1990 until 1998
Predecessor of this series is Now This Is Music
The series started early 1990 with 2 separate CDs/cassettes as well as a double vinyl album. Each CD/cassette was one half pop/rock and one half r&b/dance.
For 1990 volume 2, the music was rearranged into a CD/MC with pop/rock tracks and one with r&b/dance tracks. This was also the last installment to feature a vinyl format.
From 1991 volume 3 on, each release consisted basically of only one longplay CD/cassette.
In 1992 and 1993, 4 volumes were released each year.
1994 to 1996, 3 volumes were released each year. 1995 volume 2 was the last to be released on cassette.
In 1997 just one volume was released, followed by two releases in the series Now This Is Music (2)
In 1998 two last volumes in the Greatest Hits series were released.
Although not really a successor (there is overlap between the tracks), Hitzone became the new leading hit compilation series of the Netherlands.
The marketing slogan of this series is 'That's the difference in music'.
The marketing slogan of the 1998 releases is 'The best popsongs of '98'.
