King's

Profile:

Indonesian (formally "King's Record Inc") was founded in 1969 by Iwan Sutadi Sidarta.
Appears as King or King's or Recorded by King's Record (on cassette labels)

Like many of their peers, they gleefully released pirated copies of international albums en masse on tape. While the manufacturer of choice was BASF (the German chemicals firm had a plant in Indonesia), the level of professionalism in their products was not quite up to international standards.

In late 1988 the party ended when the Indonesian government signed a copyright pact with Europe and the USA. Most of these "labels" disappeared; King's, however, continued to operate under license and have even released CDs, Laserdiscs and Karaoke media.
