Mille Plateaux

Profile:	Mille Plateaux is a label for experimental electronic music and electronic arts. Genres like Clickhop, Glitch, Clicks & Cuts, Minimal etc. were largely influenced (and named) if not formed by the label. The name "Mille Plateaux" (A Thousand Plateaus) initially stemmed from a concept and same-titled principal work co-authored by Felix Guattari, French psychoanalyst and philosopher respectively. The former gave his approval of the use of "Mille Plateaux" to the original label founder. History: * 1993: founded by Achim Szepanski Sublabel of Force Inc. Music Works until 2004 Releases 1 to 15 are a cooperation between Force Inc. Music Works and Blue. * 2003: Defunct after the bankruptcy of distributor EFA * 2004: Temporarily revived as Achim Szepanski * 2006: Run by Disco Inc. Made a small revolution in the mid to late 90s and became the go-to label for high-brow electronica for a quite some years after. RIP Achim Szepanski.

One of the best applications of philosophy in music history - and not just in name - Szepanski (the label's founder) has written extensively on non-immanent musicology for decades and I wager that the Clicks and Cuts series is the closest any musicians have ever come to putting that idea into action.

I regularly left Videodrom on Zossener straße with everything by Mille Plateaux that they had and that I didn't have yet. Friends had the rest.

It's not just the timeless albums but also the high quality compilations of the budding experimental/IDM/glitch underground sound at the time. Haven't listened to all the releases, but what I have listened to has stayed with me for years. Still inserting Mille Plateaux tracks in sets in 2020 and onward.
