    Hi Guys,

In this Internet world of mostly "cyber friends" we discover a lot of great records. Discovering is a huge part of the fun of our hobby. Without it, our knowledge would be narrowed to the people around us in real live. And when it comes to Italo Disco it is like inexistent in most of our entourage. At least for me.

So I want to dedicate a toppic to show our gratitude to each other. Thank the guys/friends that gave us hints about records. Those who we will always and maybe link to that certain record(s) or info.

I thought it could be cool to mention some records you discovered thanks to a fellow member of our forum, add his name, and maybe some extra info about it (if you want to).

I'm sure we are not always answering on every toppic where we discover records thanks to people, but I'm also sure that quietly we are very gratefull to those guys who helped us discovering it.

That is the only purpose of this toppic. Bringing those great people to the front and humbly thank them for bringing us a part of joy in our musical ion.

Finding records, hunting, and enjoy music is one thing. Discovering unknown stuff and building some knowledge is another.

It is a little gesture for those who brought us tons of joy..

ONE SYSTEM - LIFE IS VERY SHORT

I want to thank my friend DENNIS (kroko) for this dicovery some years ago. I wasn't immediatly hooked, but he told me to give it some time, that it will surely grow on me. And it did. I love it so much today, I can't thank you enough man!! Many discoveries followed thanks to you, also Kirlian Camera and many others. But this one is linked to you and will always be! Thank you.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

    F.A.T. - TAKE ME DOWN

This great one for me is linked to my friend KOSTA. My greek friend who learned me a lot by sending me samples about records I could like. He has such a great taste of music, but also a great feeling of introducing a certain kind of records that really fits my taste. Like "Mia - Mystery rouge" / "Convoy - I will Love You"/ "Terry Gordon - Heroes and fools" / etc...
I certainly have 20 other huge discoveries I have to thank him for, and maybe I'll add some in this toppic later on, but this Fatt record is my first link to you my friend. You're a great guy and a friend! Thank's

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    GATSBY - LOVE SIGN

A record I did't catch from the first listening, but still always linked to YOERG (Jogi) from . Becuase I discovered it thanks to one of his favourite lists. A guy that I like a lot and learned me many Italo discoveries thanks to his great knowledge and active participation and records talks on euro-flash. I'm also thinking of "Charley - I can't Love" for exemple and many many others.
Because of his love for "Body Power - Nothing" he infected me with it. I gave it more chances and today that record is linked to him and one of my favourites.
YOERGI is also the one who sold me one of my first Italo/Euro Records for a great price in absolut top condition. It was "Sandra Robinson - Music And Motion". And so this one will always be linked to Yoerg for that matter. Again I would like to thank you friend for those but also many many others!! You being on the net had brought me a LOT of joy and discovery.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

    SANDY E CROMO - I CAN
BLACKWAY - FOLLOW ME / NEW LIFE
STEREO - SOMEWHERE IN THE NIGHT
    BOX 20TH - MIDNIGHT HORROR
    WESS - L'ANIMA
SUPER TRAVEL - DREAMIN' COSTA RICA
WHIZZ - DO YOU HEAR ME
    BARRY MASON - STOP STOP

Which one do I have to start with to thank my friend FLEMMING DALUM (FD43) for all he've let discovered me? I don't know... there is so much I'm so thankfull for. SO MUCH! The mentioned examples above are just a tinny bit of all the ones.
Till this day you've been the one who probably learned me the most, who I talked to the most and thanks to who I discovered the biggest part of unknown records out of my wantedlist. I never could thank you enough for this.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
MENTION - STRANGE WORLD / NO CHANGES
23RD UNDER - YOU'LL NEVER KNOW / SOMETIMES (The Great Taxiarchis!!)
    SWAN - SHINING STAR
    BRUNO MOSTI - ZERO GRAVITY
BUCKINGAM PALACE - GIVE ME YOUR NAME

For these and many other I would like to thank my friend FERATHO and all the rest of the I Venti Team, who next to releasing those great records, did let discover me some amazing beauties. Guys, you deserve a star!! Many many thanks! My ion for music wouldn't have been the same without you.

I will probably add some other thank words here in the future, because there are many..

    Oh dear, confession time.... :)

To know a record in many (if not all) cases it has to be played or shown to you by somebody else. But o.k. in this "niche-market" of italo disco there are quite some people who play an active role in this. It would go too far for me to thank everyone individually for every italo disco-record I have but for each I could probably tell who introduced me to it. So with the risk of forgetting someone I would like to thank (in random order):

Ferenc van der Sluis a.k.a. I-F who revived my interest for Italo (but also other genres) with his Mixed Up In the Hague Vol. 1 & 2 and lots of other mixes http://www.robotdj.net/?dj=I-f%20DJ and ofcourse his radioactivities for CBS (now IFM). https://intergalactic.fm/

The man known as PHAEAX on this forum who personally showed me the deeper layers of italo disco shortly after having heard MUITH-mixes.

All the DJs who made those great mixes with (for me inknown) italo in them of which I try to mention:
    - Flemming Dalum: the records I found through him are countless and there doesn't seem to be and ending yet. Major contributer and his Ableton-mixes are mindboggling. http://www.robotdj.net/?dj=Flemming%20Dalum
-Intergalactic Gary (I-G): his mixes are so smoooth http://www.robotdj.net/?dj=Intergalactic%20Gary
-David Vunk (Moustache Records): new enthousiastic force and not only italo http://www.robotdj.net/?dj=David%20Vunk
-X-Bobo (RIP!): check out his italo turbo mixes
-DJ Hysteric: who started his own Mothball Records recently which will be a succes cause he's one of the best and dedicated DJs/collectors I know.
    - DJ Peetneet: from what I heard he spends a great deal of time and effort in his italo disco-hobby which can be seen by looking at his collection and be heard in his mixes. If there was an university for italo disco he would probably have a Ph.D in it. :) And he sold me (with Frans) quite a few nice italorecords: thank you!!

The people of Radio Stad Den Haag and the Iventi Crew: for all their great work in keeping the italospirit alive from the 80's up till today!

The people here (or on other forums) sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm: you know who you are. :) Special mention: Jogi, Kroko, ITALO-neon, Moanerman, Pong38, Aftering_At_My-Way, narcisco.

All the dealers on (or outside) the net for offering these records and giving good deals on them.

    Last but not least:

The people in Italy for making fantastic italo disco!!! Without you: no italo disco...

  • Show this post
Juan Atkins - i discovered italo through him, so he started this all off for me!

Flemming Dalum and Intergalactic Gary are the chaps i owe it all to really - they have pretty much taught me everything i know today about italo, and it was Flemming who encouraged and inspired me to start up Roller Disco Records.

wiz_of_oz The people in Italy for making fantastic italo disco!!! Without you: no italo disco...

The first Sincere compliment, that I read in Discog in favor of Italy.

I must say that in this forum, all are special!

Thanks for your very nice words Dario!!This kind of reactions keeps me motivated to make many more mixes in the future! And like i said before...i love you...haha
Also Wiz, thanks a lot for your great words, always nice to hear!
And true what you say..i'm putting a great deal of time and effort into my ion..( it was a hobby a long time ago...but since about 20 years a ion!)
And since the last 7 or 8 years i totally re-discovered Italo-Disco with records like Biafra,Brian Ross,Zwitchenfall,Firefly 5,Welcome Desire-Leave me Alone,Venus Caballero and so many many more..
Before this period of time i was more into trance, and didn't give those records a chance.....( I never ever gave up on Italo, but the interest was a little bit gone..)
But at a certain point i got so hooked again and started to collect all those "new" gems one by one..
I got to know ebay and Discogs, and not a day goes by without diggin'..haha

Saying all this, my friend Dennis (Kroko) was responsible for awakening the fire again, and since he knew i really really loved Italo again he "bombed" me every day with new titles..
Everytime he said.."Peet...do you know this one?...do you know this one?...hehe...and i said...no..!!
So he sent the mp3's and in most of the time i fell in love with those records...so the hunt for the vinyl began..
So i have to give a big big thanks to Dennis for sharing all those hundreds and hundreds of mp3's of the last 8 years orso with me...if it wasn't for him i probably would have stopped collecting a long time ago!
And it still continues...new discoveries almost every day from him..
Very recent discoveries were these: Simon - I'm The One,Ilaria Berlato-Succedera Qualcosa(what an amazing record this is!!!), Rosanna Residenti- You and me tonight, and Beatrice Africa to mention a few..
And of course a big thanks to Flemming for his great mixes,...from his mixes i discovered records like Govindo,Vincent - Someone's Sayin No,Rich David,Daydino,Dean & Danielle, Covoy(true masterpiece!!) and so many many more..
Thanks to Kimo for his great work on Flashback...records like Bruno Mosti-Music of my Star and Marylinn Solo Mio are just amazing!
Also digging through Ferry's (Feratho) huge collection brings new discoveries every time....unbelievable, but digging some time ago got to know me Scraptown Viva Sahara, Fard - Flash Running,Max Delos-Sex to Take and Traesko-How Long on Spice 7.....thnx Fer!
I have to thank one more, but this credits i leave to Dennis...
The Italo world would look a lot different without this person...a really great guy with an unbelievably great collection.....
Thanks to Gwen for this topic!Hope to meet you again sometime on a Italo-party!
    Italo forever!!!Cheers
    Peter

Well well with x-mas so close by this topic already gives me goosebumps :-)
It's verry hard to write names from people without forgetting somebody so excuse me for that.

Some people / company's that where verry important in my " Italo life "

The guys from Radio Coolsound, i do not know who they are but on their radio station i heared my first italo tracks in 1984 / 1985

Hotsound, the store in Rotterdam where i buyed my records in the mid 80's

Iventi d'azzuro / Marcello for his 100% ion for Italo, the Iventi magazine, Italo party's and the radio shows in all those years.

Clearsound, a project from Michael Halve where you could order tapes and lateron cd's from a catalogue where he discribed the songs in his own words.

    Friends through the years..

Feratho, Fer who i know from the age of 9 also had an early italo life.
We shared tapes, recorded records from eachother in the 80's. And where i stopped in 89 he moved on. In 92 he was the one that gave me a tape with the dark sound of italo like Kirlian Camera / Fockewulf / Decadance. First this was to dark for me, but lateron i enjoyed it more an more.
When i listen to Eclipse i always that "dark tape " !

Leon Pronk was the man that let me listen to Ryvon / Art Fine / Sensitive give me / Don't stop from a tape in his car. He sended me a lot of unknown tracks in the period 1993 / 1995 when Italo House was pretty polulair.

Kimmo Salo, i connect him to Aquarius - Darkness. Den this is really a record that you're gonna like. And i did... this was the first record that made me cry when i heared it loud.
Still he does a great job with Flashback records and the party in Vaaksy was amazing !

Joerg Gassman was the man that told me about Massimo Vita. Den listen to this track. I'm shure you're gonna like it. Well afterall it took me about 3 years before it finaly enjoyed it. Many emails, many new tracks a true italo friend for life !

Flemming Dalum was the man that put " Ein-St-Ein - Varsavia " in one of his great mixes. I only picked this record since i cannot count the tracks that i received from him. One of the most ioned italo lovers with a lot of followers. I'm happy to be one of them !

Peetneet, well what to say about this italo master. The words from Wiz & Dario already told everything .
His knowledge about voices, mixing skills ,labels, are amazing. If you call eachother almost everyday i guess i do not need to say that he's the closest Dutch friend in the italo scene that i have. Thanks for your friendship, your mixes, your tracks.. simply amazing !!

Mixland / Filippo Bachini. He's the ultimate record finder and a verry close friend. From him i received the most unknown records and gave me the love for 7" records. This man should get a place at Madame Tussauds museum as living italo legend :-)

Chris Duyvestijn / Ron pong38 / Patrick Den Hollander Italo Neon / Martino 100jaar / Savino / Martin Verlaan / Oscar Wiz of Oz / Marco Phaeax / Frans Urgert / Gwen Aftering at my way / Roald Geerts / Seb Moanerman / Dario /George Hysteric / Alan t1000 / George Italoheaven / Ivan Yeti7 / Alex Euroflash / David Vunk / Marco kuczera / Radio Stad Den Haag / Fantasy Fm / .. the list is endless and i hope i did not forget anybody

From all here above i cherish their ion for Italo. Never a problem to send a sample or a complete audio track. Thank you all for the telephone calls , meet and greet at italo party's and all the nice emails that we sended and keep the italo fire burning !

I want to mention 1 person again.. Gwen / Aftering at my way.
I guess we all must thank you for your great postings about italo on several forums. Your writings ar always fun to read and you are a great topic starter. Thanks for your friendship and it was a pleasure to meet you at the Kirlian Camera concert in Belgium !!

    I guess now i can die :-)

    Thanks for reading

Thanks for the nice words Dennis,i think our mutual feelings about Italo are on an exceptional level!!
Of course i have give a big big thanks to Joerg too...he is one of the monuments in the scene!!
And again, thanks to all my friends i got to know in these 27 years of collecting!!

FRED VENTURA - OPEN YOUR EYES
    GEORGE AARON - HEAVEN
MARYLINN - ONLY MINE (SOLO MIO)

For those, who were all discoveries when they were released the last years for me I would like to thank both KIMMO's from Flashback Records in Finland. Their Incredible love for Italo brought us some superb releases, also their ion on Euro-flash was addictive, always nice and interesting , learning everyone a little more about Italo. Guys, can't thank you enough for it, and for the incredible amount of SUPERB releases.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

R BIAS - DIAL MY NUMBER

One that I know thanks to PETER (PEETNEET) and I'm sure he isn't aware of it :-) It was mixed on one of your many astonishing mixes you sended me. As I didn't had the tracklisting I searched for "Dial my Number - Italo Disco" on google and discogs and I found it. So it is thank to you that I know this masterpiece! My love for the FELLI records came also thanks to Peet following his DJ performance with Felli as Live act. I still have that mix at home and it was incredibly nice live on radio.
Together with Flemming the best Italo DJ around, absolute stunning and gorgeous mixes with a sence of recordchoice and mixing skills that are only given to the very very best.
Glad that even before Italo we kinda shared the same clubperiod here in Belgium. That music is long time ago but it was an incredible period of my life I won't ever forget. Sharing the same Italo love today is what will make our future for still many years to come, I'm sure.
Hope also to see you again on an Italo Party my friend, together with Dennis!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Furthermore I would also like to thank the Italo artists, and a few in particular like my good friend Sergio Bonzanni (Sensitive, oxo), Raff Todesco, Renato Rovetta (Jerry Moon) and Gianfranco (Felli) with whom I had a great time interviewing and getting along personally. Their personality and enthousiasm was always great, top friendly and very human. If by wonder you read this guys, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart, it mean so much more then just a few words. Grazie amicos!

Then again, I still will add more thanks here in the future. If you don't see your name here yet, don't worry, it will be added later on, for sure!

Firstly I gotta say thanks to Flemming, not only a great explorer of italo and super DJ, but really a nice guy too!

After Flemming my biggest discoveries were thanks to:
I-f, Intergalactic Gary, DMP (not sure where he went but his mixes still kill it), TLR, kapishe forum, CBS/R4R, etc....
    sorry too many to list!

more recently I have to thank Otto K. and Alan for inspiring me to make my own label :-)

Yes nice topic !... I also like to contribute:

First of all thanks to my old friend Alan J. who introduced me to italo back in 1982… and later took me with him to Milano to my first visit at Disco Magic, Il discotto, Non-stop distribution, Merak, Disco Service etc..etc. Also a big thanks to all the friendly Italian people I meet during all my trips to Italy…for example Claudio (R.I.P.) from Disco Magic, Paolo from il discotto, Giorgio Paganini from Cellophane club in Rimini, Mastelloni himself from Mastelloni records in Firenze…etc…etc.

After 4 years of intense italo hunting in the summer of 1986 – my collection was complete. I was sooo happy because I managed to have every single italo record I ever wanted to own - in my collection. My mission was complete.

By the summer of 1986 the overall italo sound chanced a lot from my bellowed 1982/1983 style - so I set focus on other new genres of electronic music for the next 18 year…

Approx. 25.000 records later in 2004 I was browsing the internet and wanted to have a little fun… so I tried to google the word “italo” -> ***BANG*** I was very surprised to discover a niche or even a revival of italo via sites such as CBS, Flexx records, Clone records and many more…

I went online on the CBS forum and had my first “forum chat” with Oscar back in 2004 – which started 4 years maybe 5 years with lots of online activity in forums etc. I’ve shared lots of pictures and mixes which gave me more and more motivation after amazing … It was so nice to experience such a nice community… and on top a community regarding my old ion: italo.

My mixes and online activity quickly gave me hundreds of fantastic s to other italo freaks like me. And many of them grew into great internet friendship which I still appreciate very much today.

Time also changed the trends and focus of italo … so what was popular and hot in the 80ies is not automatic in focus now (funny to observe)

So this started a little extra italo hunting for me – it was actually fun to be able to grab the records I skipped or missed back in the 80ies on the internet…!

This would NOT have been possible without all my friends !!!

You all shared your most secret italo bombs with me over the last 6 years ! – unbelievable !!!
I will never forget this !
My biggest thanks. You all have a heart of gold !

    Nice topic, indeed! :)

well, first of all i would like thank all the people with whom I had trades/ deals/ discussions/ talks/ email communication during the last 20 years. :)
Oh man, there are too many people to mention in detail.

So I only want to name a few special ones..

    Flemming
it has been great to meet each other just because i have asked
for a few pics of all his trips to Italy in the past. haha
finally it was the beginning of a great friendship...
many discussions, many unknown songs (for him and for me) and
an amazing cooperation with a nice result (Holy Grail Mix)! :))

    Filippo
probably he is the biggest collector i know on this planet.
I must thank him for many nice trade/ deals and information.
Further more i got to know lots of unknown stuff by his help...
without this knowledge i would miss great songs!
    Mille grazie, my friend.

    Dennis, Peter and Ferry
what should i say? Great friends since many many years.
Their knowledge about Italo is amazing.
Without their help i would not know anything about some rare 12"gems and the Italo 7inch world.

Thank you, Flemming! I never would have expected to appear on that list, haha!
My apologies for not posting to this topic sooner, it's just a very big one with a lot to read through.
I don't think it's possible for me to list everyone who has turned me on to all the great italo tracks that are now favorites... so basically, thanks to anyone I have ever talked italo with!

Ones that I can think of in particular, would be BIG thanks to Mr. Dalum for once posting a link to a song I had never heard before, but looked interesting - Blackway "New Life." From there, I got REALLY into that cosmic sound of Blackway and of course by association found BWH "Stop/Livin Up" and Mr. Master "Dog In The Night." When I discover new italo tracks, it's really a "chain reaction!"
Hysteric posted about Liquid Mask "Just-A-Moment" and I was quite obsessed with that song for a while after.
Big thanks to Marcello for being a powerful force in today's italo revival. I got into George Aaron from his posting "Just For You" (the original on Mr. Disco) which I think is a wonderful song.
Also "dario.zg" introduced me to many great italo, eurobeat and funk tracks from his blog and posts on various sites.
Most of all, I should probably thank Giancarlo Pasquini, because my first interest before italo-disco was what followed it - eurobeat. My favorite songs always involved the great "Dave Rodgers" and looking into his past career, I started listening to songs with his old group Aleph. That was what got me into italo, I think. Aleph are still my favorite group of all-time - there is not one song they ever made that I didn't love, or would rate 5 stars.

As I said before, there are so many songs I found thanks to so many people, some I don't really even know! My collection is not very large (just under 100 records) but each one is there for a reason. And I'm here for a reason too - to share a ion for a great style of music.

    Thanks to all,
    -Zach

    Ciao Joerg

I also like to thank you… just a little more :-)

Yes you was the first top collector I got in with. As mentioned earlier I basically thought I had all italo records I needed in my collection…. But you kindly showed me so many more fantastic records. Also many records from after 1986…(where I consider italo to be more or less dead) – but no – you had all the bombs. I also appreciate our friendship very much and our 1000s of mails, sharing tracks, you amazing network within the italo world – you ion and knowledge… so it was a big pleasure for me, finally to create THE HOLY GRAIL OF ITALO with you. I’m still very proud of our release.

Let’s see what the future brings….

After getting to know Joerg I came in with Dennis, Kimmo, Peter, Ron and Filippo. All of you also very close and dear friends of mine ! I can only say THE SAME as I did above to Joerg: Sharing so much amazing music, so much italo chatting etc…etc.. THANKS…great friendships !

... and I also like to add (just as Joerg) Filippo is proberly the greatest italo collector, and many of the discoveries over the last 6 years comes from him ! So to honor Filippo I will soon finish a mix together with him with the most KILLER RARE italo bombs ever ! (more info will follow)

Regarding James and David I also have a biiiig storie to tell (but not today)

Finally I like to mention Alan and George – also 2 very dear friends and fantastic italo freaks ! I think it’s soo good for the italo community you help to keep the spirit alive with your amazing labels ! And I somehow think we will see more brilliant releases in the near future...

Hey Zach - no I didn't forget our nice and the Q&A you did:
