William Cooper

William Cooper Glenn, known professionally as Will Glenn or Will Cooper, was a renowned musician celebrated for his exceptional skills as a keyboardist, violinist, and engineer. Born on September 17, 1957, in St. Louis, Missouri, he grew up in Billings, Montana, where his musical journey began. Educated at the Interlochen Arts Academy and Yale University, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature in 1979.

Throughout his career, Will Glenn was a pivotal figure in various influential bands and projects. In the 1980s, he was a key member of The Rain Parade, a band central to the Paisley Underground movement in Los Angeles, known for its psychedelic rock sound. Following this, he co-founded Opal, contributing to its dreamy and ethereal music with his multi-instrumental talents.

In the 1990s, Will gained wider recognition with Mazzy Star, whose blend of dream pop and psychedelic folk was enriched by his haunting violin work. His contributions to the band's atmospheric soundscapes helped cement Mazzy Star's place in music history.

Will's musical versatility was further evident in his involvement with Rainy Day, Viva Saturn, The Three O'Clock, and collaborations with Kristian Hoffman, showcasing his breadth and creativity across various genres and instruments.

Beyond his musical accomplishments, Will was a devoted family man, deeply committed to his wife Angela, their son Henry, and his faith, regularly attending Bethany Church. He ed away at the age of 43 due to neuroendocrine cancer at the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica.

Will Glenn's legacy is honored through poignant musical tributes by Mazzy Star, including "Lay Myself Down" (2011) and "Still" (2018), reflecting his enduring influence.
