Andrea (29) – Drop The Vowels

Annoying packaging seems designed to scuff the CD, but it doesn't matter because I won't be removing it again anyway. Perhaps this is more fun live but I somehow doubt it.

Andy Stott and Miles Whitaker team up for DROP THE VOWELS, under the feminine name of Millie & Andrea, kicking things off with the African sample of “GIF RIFF” before it shifts into a crystalline, abstract mode, while “Stay Ugly” doesn’t relent with the grime. The deep and cut-up jungle of “Temper Tantrum” merges with the sweeter melodic line, while the breaks of “Spectral Source” dance below a synth throb that wouldn’t be out of place on a deep house track before “Corrosive” opens up the sonic space and then fills it with heavy percussion, and the title track takes the same tack, reveling in the sub bass. The vocal samples on “Back Down” lend a lighter though mysterious flair to the deep dark before “Quay” ends the album on a gentler ambient note. Lots of bass dropped, but no vowels.

The A side threw me for a loop first listen, but on repeat the sharp sparse breaks put your mind in the right place for the rest of the album. Corrosive. Oh gosh. No words.. just go listen. I don't have much taste for Stott's named work, but under this alias/co-production with Miles I'm a very big fan. The release is a very nice package with the Daphne back catalogue on CD.

Love the album, have ordered it twice because the first was defective, and now just played the new one, and it's defective too at the same spots :(
Anyone else get skipping and warped LPs on this release? Bad pressing?

Outstanding album that have to be listened

Great album fans of demdike and a stott. Maybe a bit jungly for my taste overall, but enjoyable. Discogs needs to correct track 7 to read Back Down and not Black Down.
